I recently purchased a 2019 Z06. It is an awesome machine and my second corvette. The last one I purchased was 25 years ago so needless to say I am new to this world. I purchased the car to track it. It is cammed, has corso extreme performance exhaust with headers, and much more. I had the oil changed and the car inspected upon purchase, and everything looked great. I put on new tires and had it track aligned. A few days later I took it to the track put it in track mode and set it to sport 1. When opening it all the way on the straight away the engine started to almost misfire or putter a bit. Its definitely not something I had experienced before. I stopped immediately and took it off the track. Went and had a diagnostic done which revealed nothing. Again back on the track a few days later and the same thing happened. Any ideas? I have an appt to have it looked at by 21st century in 3 weeks but if I could get some clarity before then it would be greatly beneficial.
Unfortunately we are not going to diagnose it for you so just let whatever shop you’re taking it to do that…hopefully this shop is skilled in diagnostics because they will be changing a lot of parts which can get very expensive…other than a misfire which can be many things maybe a TPS sensor or a fuel delivery issue….good luck !!
If you have digital thermometer, you could try running the engine in park at 3 or 4 thousand rpm and check the header tubes to see if one or more are noticeably cooler. Since it only seems to be having problems under load, that may not work. If you end up shooting in the dark, I'd look at ignition and/or fuel. Check all of your spark plug wires, both ends. Make sure they're tight. You could try replacing the plugs to see if that helps. Could be a coil. The fuel side will be more difficult to sus out.
Once you get it to 21st Century they should be able to put it on the dyno and figure out which cylinder(s) has the problem is using a digital thermometer or a thermal imager.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have can give some more/better suggestions.
If you were in Sport 1, you were feeling the effects of Performance Traction Management (PTM). These cars are undriveable/super annoying in Sport 1 if you have even modest track skills. It's very intrusive. Even in Sport 2 you will feel the effects.
What track were you at? I was just down at MSR-C and will be there again in a couple weeks with the SCCA on the 1.3.
