It's actually kind of hard to test the locking on the C7. When you walk up to your car with the fob it unlocks by it self. Leave the fob inside your house and then try to unlock the door. It depends on how you have it set. I have tried to hit the lock button on the door of a couple other cars and then get out and close the door, they don't lock.

Way mine is setup. No key, no entry. It locks when I move away from the car with the key.
I just tried locking the door without the passive lock activated. You can not lock the door with the button on the door. With the door open, like you are were getting out of the car, you press the lock button on the door, it doesn't lock. Just like the other cars I tried. You can activate auto door locking, it knows you have walked away with the key fob, you don't have to hit the door lock button.
I believe the Passive Lock feature was not available on 1LT cars. I have 1LT GS and mine does not auto lock or have that option. When I exit I hit the door lock button and when I walk up to the car with fob it will unlock automatically. Nice feature since I never touch fob in my pocket.
I hate auto lock on my wife's Honda. I unlock it and before I know, it auto locks back. PIA!!!

Do you hit the lock button on the remote or the button on the inside of the door?
I just figured out, when you lock the car and walk away, then return to the car, you don't have to unlock it. The car knows you are coming back to get in and unlocks it.. Each time you walk away though, you have to lock it.
.
Is this a DUH!
My Mercedes-Benz locks up itself if you walk away. But that's not why I bought it.
Mine is a 3LT. Try leaving the fob inside your house away from the car, then go check and see if it's really locked. If it is locked, then try exiting the car, not hitting the lock button and see if it is locked.

The first time you hit the door lock button it will beep at you, just hit it a second time and it will lock. I think the first time you hit it, it beeps to tell you the fob is still in or near the car as a warning to not lock the fob in the car.
I just tried to push the door button 2 times, 3 times, 4 times. Nothing happens. I can hear it try to lock but then it unlocks it's self. I will check the menu and see if there is a door button double push lock function.

depends how locks are configured, these comments are only for my 2014:
no, if the vehicle is locked, the fob doesn't unlock the vehicle when you walk up but it does allow you to open the hatch, both doors!!
if you leave the fob in the house, try to unlock a locked vehicle, you may get the alarm!!
when i put the fobs in these pouches, i couldn't unlock/access anything!!
when you attempt to lock someone else's vehicle with the lock button on the door, without their fob, no, the door won't be locked!!
When I lock the car with the fob after parking, and walk away, it is locked. If I don't have the fob in my pocket, it will not manually open, I have tested this. If I walk up to the car with the fob in my pocket, the door and the hatch will both open without touching the fob.
I have tried to lock my other cars, not someone else's car with the inside door lock, they wont lock. Even with the fob in my pocket. hummmm.

now you're getting it, what i just said in previous post!!

Yes,,, this is true. When the car is locked, and then, when I walk up to the car to drive home after a nice cold beer, I don't have to use the fob. The car unlocks when I open the door.
