Are there any sound differences between an X pipe with a single X and another with 2 X’s such as the Cornerstone or Speed Engineering pieces?
When I purchased my car, the previous owner had removed all 4 cats and welded in straight pipe in their places. Since owning the car, I’ve swapped out the NPP mufflers with Borla Ataks (valved). So I was wondering if a double X pipe would change the tone over my current “catless” OEM x pipe.
Thanks for any feedback.
Here’s my a view factory catless downpipe. The previous owner did a great job with the welds.
Very nice welds indeed, you don't often see that level of quality on altered stock exhaust systems. As for the X pipe, have a look at this video it might answer some of your questions.
Well I took the plunge. Here’s my new Speed Engineering xpipe next to my old, catless OEM pipe. With the new SE pipe, my exhaust is much deeper throughout the lower rpm ranges. Another thing I’ve noticed is that the last of the straight pipe sound is gone. With full catless, OEM pipe and NPP’s, the car sounded loud and similar to straight pipe in some rpm ranges (in my opinion). It had that flap, flap, flap sound if you know what I mean. The Borla Atak’s got rid of 90% of that. The new xpipe took care of the rest. Hope this helps anyone in the same boat.
