2014 C7 Z51 M7 here. I bought my car as is with 72k miles on it and I started getting misfires so I cut the pipe after the catalytic converter and After cutting the cats (pipe currently open), I started getting consistent misfires on cylinders( bank 1) 1, 3, and 5. Cylinder 7 is clean. Also, rev match stopped working when I was driving, and 2nd gear feels off.
A blue flame shot out from the open pipe once, and around that time my clutch pedal dropped halfway, then recovered after cooling. I’m thinking heat damage to clutch or gear position wiring may be affecting both rev match and shifting.
Already replaced plugs, reseated a loose coil boot on #5, and dropped the car off at a shop for full diagnosis + pipe welding.
Anyone experienced Bank 1 misfires + rev match failure after heat or exhaust work? Trying to confirm if it’s wiring, coil, or sensor related before they dig in.
Thanks!
New to corvette so please be kind I know I’m stupid.
Your shop should be able to better diagnose the car since they are the ones that will be looking at it…if bank specific misfire maybe O2 sensor related..I’m curious why you cut the exhaust pipe after the cat ??…what did you think that would accomplish ??

so I thought I had clogged cats and due to that I gutted since I felt a lot of back pressure and difference in temperatures.
If you thought a cat was clogged you would have cut the pipe before and not AFTER the cat if that is what you did…a shop without advanced diagnostic equipment will just remove the upstream O2 sensor and will install a pressure gauge to measure the back pressure…increased IAT temperature and increased MAP sensor reading can sometimes be used.

how much do you think repairs would be? The shop said I didn’t install spark plugs correctly when I did I’ve watched over 10 videos and used the right spark plugs which were ACdelco and I’m asking how much could repair be on maybe burnt wires by the cats, and misfire on bank 1. I’m hoping it’s under 2k in repairs
Also I was scared to cut before cats because that O2 sensor and wiring was like RIGHT THERE
First thing I don’t know what’s wrong with your car and where you are located as labor rates vary…also general repair shops and dealerships without advanced diagnostic equipment will only GUESS and that can get expensive…a clogged cat is an “effect” and not the “cause”…a cat being fed the right feed gasses should last the life of the car…things like misfires, coolant or oil leaks into the combustion chamber can clog these cats up…I don’t see how plugs can’t be installed “correctly”…an O2 sensor “stuck” rich or lean as I mentioned can cause a bank specific misfire and also a clogged cat…you had the misfire before you cut the exhaust so it could not be burnt wiring…maybe now but not before…just look for a diagnostic shop and they will find the one cause of your misfires.
I’m located in Houston, Texas I took it to a pretty reliable shop, I talked to the owner he’s reasonable with younger individuals like me I’m 19 and I just got the car so I mean I will say this is definitely a lesson learned to not mess with cars I have no clue about and don’t take motivation from other mechanics saying “they’re easy cars to work on” when I barely have any experience on working on a car besides brake pads and oil change.
If you are located in Houston look up Oz Mechanics…I believe Oz is still in Pasadena or he is in Deer Park now…sharp Tech !!…video below…I use the inclylinder testing method which is “advanced”.

bruh now I’m over here regretting dropping my car off to the shop I sent it to, I mean it has 4.9 rating also, but literally I think that corvette was literally almost on last legs of driving when I put the car in second I believe i felt it rev when it was supposed to drive? I put it in 3rd and drove normal so pretty much my repairs could be looking even more on top of that, my solution to my plan is to payment plan fix with the shop and make better choices.
Ask the shop if they use a “lab scope” to diagnose misfires…if they don’t they’re GUESSING !!…video so you can see what a good shop with advanced equipment can do…live and learn Bro !!

okay bet, I will ask that also once I get called, they said a couple days I’ll probably be called, but if it’s like too long on my car I’ll just have it towed to what you had recommended

To diagnose a misfire should not take a couple “days”…should only take a few hours at most with the right equipment and a sharp Tech…should be diagnosed down to one bad part or one bad wire…if a shop replaces a part and says….” well, it needed it anyway” they are clueless.

they said couple days because there’s at least like 12 z06’s and 4 zr1s I’ve seen like at that shop so they said some are waiting on parts and some are projects that’s current. But I’m honestly not having a problem with waiting I get paid weekly so I’ll have more money by the time they get to me, they said max 2 days tho they’ll be able to get to my car

OK, we’ll keep us advised on what they find !!…good luck !!

okay so update the guy told me I might need a DOD or something delete and can and headers which would run me close to 12k-16k which sounds outrageous or it could be something else which could cost me a 1200-1500$ which sounds more in my price range, and what he said about the spark plugs he said they need to be gapped don’t know what that means at all
You don’t need all that other crap…just get your misfire diagnosed !!
Yessir the shop tryna make the most they can out of me which is so unfortunate I mean literally they see a corvette and think “money” but little do they know I’m 19 pockets burnt like shi

so update he said they use horoscopes which I’m very known with because I use that for my job (welder inspector) but he didn’t like say YEA I use lab scope like how you said but he did kinda say we use all that stuff. But he was really going for towards me getting increase in power as for a headers and mid pipe which is not my intention lmao I stated surely that I just want my misfire fixed and that’s all.
Do you mean “oscilloscope” or “borescope” and not horoscope ??…that’s what that ship probably uses to diagnose cars….I don’t think you use an oscilloscope or borescope to check welds…dye pen, mag particle, eddy current.
