Default C7 Transmission Triple Flush

I have a 2017 C7 Z06 with 7,500 miles. No problems. Going to have the triple flush done to get the garbage fluid out. Do I need to have the transmission Filter replaced also? I have be told no.

Why would you need to have the transmission replaced unless it was broke? The triple flush isn't going to get 100% of the old fluid out. For that you need to tear everything down, clean it up and reassemble. It gets most of the old fluid out and whatever remains shouldn't be a problem, AFAIK. I would NOT ask the shops how much it costs. "I were a kollege stooden. I can add without taking my socks off.". TSB says 2.8 hours and 24 quarts of fluid. Check with parts how much the fluid costs per quart, multiply it by 24 to find out how much the parts cost. Ask how much the labor rate is and multiply it by 2.8 and you know how much labor costs. Add the 2 and you get how much the job is going to be. If their quote doesn't include the details that allow you to come up with an estimated final cost, walk.

The fluid change was for the torque converter, mainly for its clutches.

The changeover had nothing to do with the trans even though it also uses the fluid.

I thought it was because the A8 got the "hand me down" fluid from the A6 and the A8 was more sensitive to water in the fluid than the A6?

The TC was made smaller on the C7 than previous models due to the extra gear (8th). Everything got squished for it to fit. When the converter became smaller so did the clutches. The old style fluid just didn’t work thus the triple flush with the new Mobile 1 Blue Label became the fix.
Moisture in the old fluid made things worse and all this created the shudder problem.
GM changed out a lot of converters before they realized that moisture was the problem. Then the Blue Label came about for the fix.

after the triple flush is done do you need to do it again at the next trans service 25000 miles later?

I would think not since most of the old fluid is out. Simple drop of the pan.

Usually no but doing a second triple flush would not hurt anything. All it would accomplish is completely flushing out all the old fluid.

Yes, you should replace the 'Filter' but it's a maybe call with only 7500 miles on it.

Can't hurt and you already have the pan off.

When I changed my ATF I did not change the filter because I only had 1500 miles on it, and it was only 6 months old.

Does the triple flush need to be done on a 2019 ZR1 that was assembled in late 2018? Only has 2k miles now and is not having any shuddering issues. Thinking of doing it to be proactive if its something that is recommended.

Yes if it is done like the TSB says. No, if it is just a pan drop.

I was told by my dealer that the new fluid was used in the in the 2019 ZR1 starting in Febuary of 2019. Any transmission builds before then had
the old fluid. My 19 ZR1 developed a 1-2 shift flair at 2K miles and said that my March build had the new fluid but they did a triple flush
anyway since it was under warranty and did not change the filter because of the low mileage.
That was in August 2019 and since then it's been rock solid .
Also you probly know the 19 ZR1 does not have AFM !

I did mine a few weeks ago and the cost of a filter and gasket is minimal , Got the parts fron Benson's AC delco and I think it cost $110.00

Did you get a quote with a DETAILED breakdown of what parts and how much labor or just a number tossed at you? You should be seeing $110 for the filter, $240 for the fluid and possibility $600 of labor including the misc fees.

You can Google TSB 18-NA-355, that will get you a copy of the TSB from there you can work out if your car falls into the parameters that requires a triple flush.

I'm not sure I see any real parameters. TSB seems to address what to do if you have a shudder and your car is older than Feb 2019. I believe it boils down to 2 choices if you are in that category. Either wait for it to absorb enough moisture to present a problem (not that it cannot do some harm before it actually makes you notice it) or dump the old fluid and spend $1000 before the old fluid has absorbed enough moisture to cause the shudder.

My husband did the flush- he changed the pan gasket and the filter while he was at it...if you are paying for it though the answer may be different.
Hubs has worked on planes as his career and his stance is always change the filters and gaskets...
