So I was on my way home from work the other day and my car 2015 C7 Stingray
started sputtering and ended up not getting up to speed or going at all. Had my dad come with a code reader and it read codes P0011 and P0016 and my mechanic said he replaced the sensors which were camshaft and crankshaft sensors. It would try to turn over and would crank for a little and I think he burned the starter messing with it and ordered a new starter and he put a new high pressure fuel pump on it, he told me he would start it and it would turn over and drive till the engine gets warm and then it just goes off or quits. I dont know what to do and would like to see if anyone else has experienced this before I take it to the dealership.
Take to a dealership ??….are you crazy ??…your mechanic couldn’t figure this out either…first the correlation DTC they will not understand how to diagnose this…best way is with a labscope which dealers don’t use…did a class with John Thornton who is the best automotive instructor in the country a few months ago and who is also a mobile DIAGNOSTIC tech who gets called in by shops that can’t figure it out…a 2014 C7 with a P0016 was one of our case studies…he didn’t finish the diag because of some disagreement between the owner and the shop it was taken to…you can see a few things can cause this…spool valve or phaser sprocket…a dealership will NEVER be able to diagnose this…find a diagnostic shop in your area…this may also be a lot of slack in the timing chain and since would be the most expensive repair I’m sure that is what they’ll tell you it is…your car has Variable Valve Lift…doubtful you understand how it works…if the code says cam or crank sensor position trouble code that’s what they change…a high pressure fuel pump was discussed as if the valve timing was off this may affect these 3 lobe high pressure fuel pumps.
