Ok here's the problem 2014 manual, while driving temperature gauge is bottomed out 100° car is under No Distress running great. But the cooling fan keeps running with the car Off it's been running for 20 minutes now
Analog is reading low, and after 30 minutes the fan shut off by itself, will probably take the car to lunch and see if the problem with fan goes away and when home tonight will chase any suggestions about the gauge
The temp sensor is likely bad, so the car doesn't know the actual coolant temp. The safe thing to do is run the radiator fan to prevent overheating - this is how the car is programmed.
Change the coolant temp sensor mounted on the water pump manifold. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes to reset the computer modules if necessary.
As long as you are there, it would be a good idea to replace both, the temp sensor and thermostat. Just make sure you get the correct 2014 parts. They changed in 2015. And the sensor is a different location. The temp reading pegged low,,,, is most likely the sensor.
Well all it continued to act up on way home reading low fan on, then all of sudden temp jumped not to a scary temp 235 and then dropped to around 210 fan turned off and seemed normal operation.
Took the car on a breakfast run and it started to act up brought it to a friend with all the diagnostic equipment and he confirmed the the scan tool showed the car at 215 but the gauge at no value.
So the car is at minimum getting a Thermostat he gave it a snack and the gauge jumped
The thermostat wouldn't make the gauge read 0. Make sure you get the 207* 2014 stat.
when mine went bad the gauge would read 0. It actually did exactly what the OP is saying. The fan would get “stuck” on and blow forever, the gauge would not read and then occasionally it would start to read just fine and jump from 0 to whatever temp it was at. On mine, the fans would usually turn off as usual IF the gauge was reading but if it was not reading fans would be stuck on.
I replaced the thermostat and never had the problem again.
So tell me how the thermostat would make the temp gauge jump from 0 to the correct temp than back.
I simply shared something that happened to me. Like others have said, it could be the temp sensor, the thermo or both. I shared what happened to me so the OP does not assume it can’t be the the thermo stat because a “thermostat would not cause it to read 0”. In some cases it can. For example, if the t stat gets stuck open or if it does not warm up fast enough then the ECM senses a problem with the coolant temperature sensor and goes into a fail safe mode which will turn on the fan and disable the temp gauge causing it to read 0. Then after going through a cycle may read correctly and show the correct temp.
How is the temp gauge disabled? I have never heard of this. I would have an easier time believing that when the thermostat was changed the temp sensor was bumped or reconnected causing it to all of a sudden start working.
