I have a 2016 Z51 that I bought last November and I’ve only driven it for less than 200 miles so far, the car currently has a little over 1,400 miles.
I pulled the intake duct off which connects the throttle body to the fender well air box to have a look at the air cleaner. There was about at least a 1/4 cup of oil laying in the bottom of the intake duct, looked like clean motor oil. Appeared to be no oil entering the air box or the throttle body. I’m guessing it’s coming in from one of the hoses that connects to the air intake duct.
I pulled out the air filter and it looks new as I expected. The throttle body is clean and no signs of oil. Looks like the oil just laid in the bottom of the intake duct.
The oil had to come from the hose that attaches to the oil fill canister and connects to the intake duct to the left and front of the throttle body connection.
Did you check to see if engine oil was overfilled?
The car was cold when I found the oil. Spent a lot of time to clean it up. Pulled the stick and there was oil on it about an inch up. I’m going to warm it up tomorrow and check the level. Car runs ok but if it checks ok I will get an oil change or maybe do myself and make sure it’s correct.
It was clean oil and maybe a 1/4 cup. I may never know what happened but I will be checking it regularly for a while.
The last oil change was done by the selling Chevrolet dealer.
Thanks everyone, I properly checked the oil level and it was fine. I suspect an overfill also. Appears to be no harm done. The car is calling for an oil change which I will do so I know it’s done correctly.
