According to one mag. there is a very good reason we were told there would be no C7 ZR1....because there will be a ZORA (ZR1)
If you are referring to Motor Trend, they also said the "Zora" would be mid-engine....
Before you put too much faith in them, here's what they thought the C7 was going to look like 4 months before the launch. At that point, literally every other car magazine had their renderings 95% correct. As you can see, Motor Trend got NOTHING right.
Thank you...my only point was that, assuming the truth it makes all the sense in the world that there would be no C7ZR1. If the mid engine part is correct then the limitations on traction presented by a rear wheel car will evaporate or certainly be greatly mitigated...rrm
You know there will be a better C7 at some point. Way too early on this generation to have reached the pinnacle of performance with the Z06. This generation should have a 6-7 year run so a little inside info has it that there is something bigger and better coming.
"hey Bobby" What's up Dan? How are our mags sales? , Well kinda slow actually we need something to get people to buy what do you suggest? Bobby:How about another article on a mid engine Corvette? You know the same rumor that's been going on since the 90's.. People are stupid enough to believe it so let's keep putting them out and that way they can post all over the forums since they can't get a clue...Great idea man!!! Those guys are suckers for that..Run the article
c7 z06 may be the last of the high-po vettes we have become used to. '18 cafe regulations are going to change the world of hi-po cars from american manufactures. high hp supercharged v8's are going to be going away. quite frankly i cant wait to see what the next gen of muscle/sport cars are going to be bringing to the table. its going to become a matter of weight not hp. anyone who has driven a track car knows that weight is the biggest factor to going fast. new materials, new designs, lighter cars , smaller fi motors ...its gonna be a blast!!!!
hope i am around in 15 years to see what the hot cars are going to be
Corvette is going to HAVE to go mid engined and hybrid , its not if but when
The real question is will Corvette be a leader like they used to be in putting new technology into their cars like fuel injection and all disc brakes before anybody else or living in the past dinosaurs like the Firebird and Vipers
All the purists are NOT Corvette history followers at all. The only company more daring than Corvette especially under Zora with groundbreaking and completely ground-up revamping of design may be Lamborghini .
So long live the Corvette spirit of leading innovative technology and design and forget all these stodgy old fossils who have always existed and if listened to we would still be using horse and buggys because these "new fangled auto cars are never going to be better than the clippity cloppity of horses" or kept on making Model T's till today because "It's tradition"
Will Corvette push towards the lead or be dragged down by the past? C7 aluminum frame, direct injection engine, electronic differential, run-flats that actually handle and ride well, upgraded LT-1 with a intercooled supercharger, A8 transmission...all in 2 models years! I'm thinking the future may be bright!
I'm very skeptical of these reports. It's hardly news that Team Corvette is "working" on the next gen vette, and that simple fact in no ways confirms a mid-engined vette.
One day Corvette may go mid-engined but I don't think that day will be 2017 or even 2020.
The engineering required to produce such a car is substantial and the cost to build such a limited production car with so many unique components that cannot be shared with other product lines (I'm just assuming there will be no mid engined Denali ) would drive the cost well past $150k.
There is a reason current mid engined limit production cars costs as much as they do, and there is a reason Corvettes cost hundreds of thousands less.
I'll admit, it would be cool to see such a car, but I'm not holding my breath. I love corvettes but I don't see them competing with McLaren, Ferrari, etc. and I don't think they want too.

I believe that Mercedes-Benz was the first to offer fuel injection back in 1955, Not the Corvette. Also Crosley had all their models(sedan convertible, station wagon and two seater sports car) equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes back in 1949, 4 years before the Corvette was even built.
Chrysler even had the first production car that had the horsepower equal to the displacement in 1956( optional in the 300B with 355 HP and 354 cu in), before the 1957 Corvette's so called claim to fame.

You seem to have completely missed the point which was ..Corvette was NEVER AFRAID if innovation or CHANGE they embraced it ....I never said others did not innovate or when..And newsflash, have you seen the hippo dinosaurs Chrysler has been making for the last decade and how badly they sell.
