For what it's worth, I have relatives who work at different car dealerships, with new cars ranging in price from $20k to $200k. They thought the dealer was 100% wrong in letting this happen. They said that if a car comes in that someone has under contract, once it is off the carrier, no one other than a dealership employee or the buyer is allowed in (or on), unless they have the permission from the buyer. It does not matter what price the car is, it is a matter of respecting the buyer and his or her car.

Remember that someone drove that same car off the assy. line, than some one drove it onto the car hauler, than some one drove it off that same car hauler, than some one drove it into the dealer prep room, before the owner even sat in it once.

i'm pretty sure the respect they show for a car is the same respect they give to other things/people in their life. I do agree with the OP. Although legally it is not yet their car, by all practical purposes it is, and should be treated as such by those in possession.
