I wonder how long MSRP will last with the Z06 not doing so well in magazine tests.
Doubt many if any dealers will give big discounts at the present time... it's still highly sought after. Mag results won't affect them. And IMO it woukd be fickle to back out of an order or not buy one just because of some head to head results. This car is still the best value out there both overall and performance wise... at a fraction of its competitor's prices.

Hmmm. Yesterday I would have agreed with you - but I'm not so sure I agree today. After the GTR handed it to the Z on the track, the Viper looks like competition and maybe then some. And it starts within 5k of the Z. You are correct that the Z06 is a fraction of the Viper's price - but that fraction is 79/85!! To say the Viper isn't competition is not a correct statement.
I don't think I would buy a Viper - but just sayin . . .

Im in the market for a z06 but i tend to agree with you. Whats the point of selling a 650hp car, if the only place you see that 650hp is on a dyno with a cooled engine?
Hell instead of 650hp, why not just sell a 1000hp vette that cuts timing after a few seconds of driving so the engine lives? I dont see the difference, both are useless numbers if the car cant sustain the power and a complete marketing gimmick imo.

Never said Viper was not a direct competitor. And now that it's well within the Z's price realms is all due to the V's sales being so consistently dismal, they had to decrease its MSRP substantially. Have sales tripled since or V's flying off the dealer floorplans? Or better yet, sales increased ten fold?
I'm not taking anything away from the Viper since it's an amazing machine but the Z overall is still a better bang for the buck. Sales numbers proves it too. This is whether it finishes 1st in some performance categories or in the nth place in others such as head to head tests.

but sure seem to be more competition coming and coming
ford gt 40 reincarnation, nsx reincarnation, hellcat chargers/chargers,mustang gt, rumor that all 911's will be turbo, nissan
gt-r special edition, lexus entering the fray, more amg m-b offerings,
tesla, bmw i8, ....AND CHEAPER GAS!
I am not sure that $1,000 increase is much of a problem, but if GM wants to really goose it to the values some of the mags have suggested it might be worth, then GM is going to have to get use to a lot lower volumes for both the Z06 and the Stingray moving into 2016 and beyond.
I suspect that they do not want that and want to keep volumes up and Bowling Green busy. So a bit of a price bump at about the time that dealers are close to start discounting a little bit is a rather neutral pricing position.
At the end of the day the Vette, Stingray or Z06, is not a necessity for any of us, so the higher the price the more of us that will start to delay a purchase or drop out for a variety of reasons.

I don't really care about how either of the cars sell, but no....sales does not prove which one is a better bang as Vipers aren't and never were mass produced as vettes are. Even if they were, it still wouldn't prove such as the subject "better bang" is totally opinionated.
Once the early adopters get through the system, attracting more and more buyers as the price escalates will be more difficult. We have seen this time and time again.
It has happened last year with the C7 Stingray, so unless a C7 ZR1 is in the wings to pick up the productions slots, it will soon happen with the Z06. Not saying that prices will have to drop, but just that a significant rate of increase is not likely in the cards.
Otherwise more and more buyers will start to wait for dealer discounting, GMS pricing etc. and the supply chain stalls out.
Bottom line is both Stingray and Z06 are great value performance cars that many consumers prefer over others. Not everyone will like it or buy one so on that note move on... buy the Viper (thanks to that price slash) or reach for that 150K Nismo or simply whatever supercar toots your horn.
The C7 (Stingray and Z06) has garnered and continues to garner many praises, awards, and accolades... even through numerous price increases... even through the continuous bashing, specifically in this forum where often it's convoluted or out of context. Even the mods are tired of it...
The compiled C7 sales data is what's presently available online... even if the Stingray is subtracted from the tallys, the Z06 sales in the month of Dec alone still out number the entire year of the Viper. If the demand for the Viper was high, then Dodge would ramp up the units... like I said it's still a business after all.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
