I think the way you worded the post is what's making people bark at you. Use of words like "lazy" or phrases like "don't know how" got you off on the wrong foot. As a 70 y/o man I suspect I have probably driven more "sticks " than you ever will. Even at my age I still practice medicine over 60 hours a week. I also run 5mi at least 4 times a week. Lazy isn't in my vocabulary. I will order the A8 because I can afford it and because I want to. If you had just asked your question simply, I am pretty sure you would have gotten lots of answers that were not unkind.
Unless your a LEO why would you need to discharge your weapon? What do you do, drive around and look for trouble? I know many a person that carry a piece,my brother ,my boss, and both my nephews do just for starters and I can tell you the last thing on their mind is worrying how they are going to discharge their weapon while they are driving.
Its called sarcasam. You might want to try it sometimes, its very liberating.

First off read post #60 and secondly that's the problem with C7 forum, way too much sarcasm. How the F**K am I supposed to know it's sarcasm, you could be one of those gun nuts that because you carry a gun you think your sh*t don't stink. Go to a gun forum and post this crap not a car forum. Now this is my sarcasm!
The guy in the seat was my neighbor, Larry Martin, who is 15 years older than me. I ended up driving it a few years later before he sold it. Then I built this car (photo taken in 1980 at Bakersfield). The throttle stuck on this run. I sold it in 1983 to a guy who ended up crashing/destroyed it in El Paso. It had the same turbo 400 and 8" converter that was in the Corvette above.
Where do I begin:
1) Really like the altered, you have good taste. Engine has a bad a$$ look too.
2) Hemi cars are all gone.
Sold the wrecked Road Runner for $800 after cutting a phone pole off just above the ground in the rain. I brought the Cuda later for $1400, that one survived to find another owner.
3) Hey I'm just a little guy my expenses usually came to $50 bucks for the one weekend day of class 2 bracket racing. Class two (no electronics) usually requires an average of a .02 to .05 reaction time running close to your dial to get you into the money rounds. I only went to the track once a weekend, then one day I found out how the "Head Hunters/Terminators" got so good because I went to two different tracks that weekend and there they were; "THAT'S ALL THEY DO"

Wow, this thread got ugly fast lol. About as fast as Z06 fast but not Viper quick
I simply do not see the fun in rowing gears anymore especially if you are going to track the car. After all, on the track, the goal is to be as quick as possible and the new electronics allow you to better focus on your lines, breaking, etc...
OK...OK...chill out guys. I understand his post clearly, and don't take offense. He wants out thoughts about our choice. Sooo, I've always had manual shift performance cars, and have raced quite a bit. Still have a Cobra race car, and GT40. Fact is, this is supposed to be the NEW A8 with extremely fast shifts that rival any of the multi clutch autos. It is to be FAST, on drag strip of road course. We WILL SEE when these get in the hands of some of OUR guys, sans the media bias (that may have been exaggerated or embellished). Sure haven't see any of the testers complaining about the A8!!! OP- bottom line, for me, it's faster and technology at it's best. Accept it, or just keep banging that shifter around while looking at my taillights.....I'll bet the M7 manual Z06 will drop in value like a rock after the A8 have proven themselves. I'm betting well over $100K on just that!!!
I bracket raced every single weekend OCIR was open from 1972 till the day they closed in 1983. They had a "bracket one" based on the quick 32 qualified cars, so I built the altered because the econo dragsters made it hard to qualify for it with the heavier Corvette and I didn't want to run against 100 cars that ran in bracket 2. Those were the funnest days.
I have found that the more you spend/faster you go it's still fun but not as much fun as when it was not so expensive and you did not break parts very offend. The good thing about bracket racing is that a 12 second car (less investment) with a good driver can put away a 9 second car with a average driver, then Mr. 12 Seconds walks to the tower to pick up the big check. Boy does that **** off the fast guy who is usually a good driver too, just dropped the ball on that run but they come to respect good racers.

I've seen that before...
A few years ago, a 17 second Prius was beating all the bracket cars at a track near me...just push the gas and go...cut good lights and ran within a tenth the entire time..quite comical actually!
Why does the new Z06 come with automatic windows? Are people too lazy to roll up windows these days?
i enjoy rolling up my windows manually . it just gets me more involved with my car.
I had my 09z converted to roll up windows .
I find that just pushing one button is too boring .. i enjoy the arm cranking

I had a vintage 67 corvair and took my young nice for a ride....she says "uncle Doug, where are the buttons for the windows"?
I've always enjoyed cranking on those windows, while waiting for the radio to warm up......Now that's sarcasm, my friends.
Seriously, with all this technology, I have NEVER fully used any of it, in any of my new cars. I'm hoping the Museum delivery will help me understand all this stuff, let's face it, it can be overwhelming. Just getting this one button control stuff kinda sorted out with the BMW and Mercedes cars. Especially not driving them everyday, it's a constant freakin puzzle??
It's interesting that some of you prefer a more limited level of interaction when driving your sports car. Personally, I very much enjoy rowing my own gears, but I also understand that it's not for everyone. Fair enough.
One of the assertions made earlier is that it [the automatic transmission] improves performance. It can shift faster than a human, thereby making the car quicker, even if by only fractions of a second. You'd be correct on that point, no argument here.
This got me thinking however. Using the same logic, I wonder how many of you would embrace a self-driving, autonomous Corvette. This technology will almost certainly become ubiquitous in the next decade or so.
It's theoretically possible (and maybe inevitable) that a self-driving Corvette will be faster around a road course than a human driver, even beating the best professionals out there. It could launch itself down a drag strip optimally, safely, consistently and straight every...single...time, far superior to the meatbag behind the wheel.
Is being faster so important that you'd give up the driver's seat to HAL? And if so, what does this say about you, as the driver? Or can you still call yourself a driver at that point?

Bill Terrell or Leon Ruddick? I'm from El Paso. Small damn world.

Get them to chill out, now that's funny! So I must ask, do you own a GT40 or a Ford GT?? Inquiring minds need to know. If anyone took the time they would get it, I like to row and am not looking to go a second faster on a 2-3 mile course, or five seconds for that matter. And btw, I have driven paddles on a road course and it near put me to sleep, but that's me.

Because there are enough people hitting the hatch release with their knee ........ Can you imagine the law suits from banged up knee caps if the car had crank windows ?
Geez is everyone on this forum so sensitive? If you look at my OP I asked a question then stated my preference, is that not allowed here? I was told that this forum is quite critical and as a newbie it is a big turnoff.
Not sensitive at all, I just asked a simple question of you that you didn't answer because you got offended by my post...you just did exactly what you accuse everybody here of doing: being so sensitive. Go ahead and answer my question: why is it so important to you what other people drive? Does it affect your lap times in some way?

In my life, I have found when somebody says "I'm not trying to be mean" or " I don't mean to offend anyone", that's exactly what they proceed to do. It's almost as if they think by saying the opposite of what they're about to do, it somehow makes it ok to be that "jerk".
Life is short, stop worrying about what others have and enjoy what you have.
i can agree with the members who say the auto in full drive mode is boring.
when i got my GS coupe auto , its boring to drive in full Auto mode compared to my c6z .
I needed an auto this time due to a blown out left knee , I'm getting a partial knee replacement in a month .
this may account for my new respect for auto with paddle shift
