The June issue of TopGear magazine is here, and it sees Italy and the USA going head-to-head in a high-horsepower battle.
Yes, our cover stars are the Corvette Z06 convertible and the Lamborghini Aventador LP700 Roadster - two cars from the very wildest end of the cabrio sphere. Both deliver on the looks front, both are ridiculously fast... but with the Corvette costing a staggering £233k less than the Lambo, can it possibly it compare? We go on a road trip stateside to find out.
Conclusion:
...the Z06 convertible is an astonishingly good piece of kit... we are all starting to wonder why you would need, or want, anything more than the Z06 convertible to get your open-topped driving pleasures. Personally, I'd stick with the regular hard-topped coupe Z06, still with the Z07 package, though...it's the perfect mix for me of open and closed motoring.
But even that, even though it's for a totally different audience, is unlikely to beat this Z06 convertible for all-American driving thrills. If, like Ms Warwick urges you to do, you are about to put down 100k and buy a car, we couldn't think of anything better to spend it on right now. A bargain at twice the price. TG

I welcome the constructive criticism the new Z06 has received but you know Corvette has come a long way when it's in a comparo like this. Can't imagine how much fun a Z06 vert is at full throttle and top down.

But it is a real SE!
The ZO6 is good but personally I do not see it trumping (or for that matter even equalling) the SV Aventador's sub 7 second Ring time.

I believe the intent of they're article has more to do with the EU manufacturers & their ridiculous prices, than the Z06 vs. Aventador...
It's nonsense to compare the two vehicles side by side. Isn't the Aventador's interior hand stitched by genuine virgins? How is GM gonna compete with that?
I think what Top Gear may be trying to say is they're tired of these overpriced supercars, that less than 1% of the EU can afford. They're great & all but that's ALL they have over there. The U.S. has a reasonable supercar & Europe wants one of their own.
I'm sure they get one in the next couple of years.

Maybe the time showing on the still shot of the video is causing some confusion
Here is an article to go with the video that shows the Aventador SV beating the 7 minute barrier by just a tad

Half a million bucks and it comes with an interior that looks a taxi cab and an instrument cluster display from a game boy.

With such discriminating taste and a glorious username what are you doing on a car forum for mere mortals?
For others here whose hired help do not own a Bugatti Veyron, here is an up close view of the interior and exterior of the SV Aventador.
