Default Basic Home Garage Lift/Rack

Anyone have one? Since I'm getting my new Z, I want to get a lift, and if I can get it to fit, a rack for the garage for basic maintenance and storage.

Attached is a pic of the garage space I'm dealing with.

I have a bendpak in my garage. They make several models for smaller spaces, but the problem you will run into is the width of the vette. I have the HD9. Garage equipment supply out of California had good pricing.

What is your ceiling height? Mine is 10'6" but I could get by with 10'0". I have no problem with either parking my C6 Z06 under the lift, or putting it on the lift and raising it to change the oil, etc.

I did have to raise my garage door rails and the opener closer to the ceiling. I have two of the 4-post lifts in my 20' wide two car garage.

You might want to consider a unit like this:

Here is a thread on this forum about garage lifts: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-lifts-2.html. My post is the last one showing the lift I have. Works great for me but it really needs 10' of ceiling height to accommodate a 5' tall car (my BMW 5 Series) and a 4' tall car ((my ZR-1). It looks from the picture that your garage ceiling is more like 8'-9' so to do two cars you might need to do some ceiling surgery (which, depending on your construction and whether anything is above it, is not necessarily too difficult). In any event you would need to raise the garage door tracks to as close to the ceiling as possible (about 6") and maybe even switch to a jackshaft opener like I have (Liftmaster 3800). -Good luck with your project. -Bob

Thanks for the replies fellas, looks like there are a few options out there.

Not looking to cut up, that's the family room above the garage lol. So, no double stack, just something for elevated maintenance.

Here is a thread that I stated last month regarding this same topic. I ended up going with the BendPak HD9 after lots of research. Awesome. (See my Avatar)

Only minor downside to the HD-9 is the pneumatic safety latches that require an air source to let the car down. I plumbed an extra outlet to my compressor, but other than that I love mine.

Not if you install this. It just came out. No need for a compressor. It mounts underneath one of the ramps.

If you don't go with a portable unit.

Double check the load rating of your concrete.
The floor mounted 2 post lifts require 3000 psi concrete to comply and support the load of a 7K + lift.

Point is your floor was likely not poured with 3K psi concrete.
So you may be forced to go with a 4 post or portable if you don't re-pour or ignore the requirement.

Just another thing to consider.

Owning a lift at home has got to be wonderful, but if you can't use it to walk under the car like it was made to be used, its not really worth having.

You can do quite a bit with a few floor jacks, I have 5 of them, on bigger jobs I find myself using 4.

2 heavy duty 2 ton jacks, 2 light weight 1 ton aluminum jacks, can do almost anything you can do at home for much less and not be in your way.

It depends on what kind of mnx or other tasks need to be done. Lifts that provide adequate ground clearance for oil changes and basic work under the car are both safer than floor jacks and faster to deploy.
