Default Hoosiers in Z07/ZR1 sizes

Has anyone heard rumor of R7's coming in C7Z06/07 and ZR1 sizes this season?

I read about the possibility over on Rennlist (hopefully coming in GT3 sizes as well):

I was thinking of getting a 18" finspeed set up (18x11,18x13) to open up a broader choice of track tires, but I already have two sets of OEM ZR1 wheels and stock size R7's would save me on $5k in new rims.

I've corresponded with Jeff a couple of times over this.

Their facility can do 20's now. We should be seeing ZR1, C6 Carbon/Z07 and C7Z sized hoosiers next spring if all goes well.

No more cup2's as the only option for us!

Wow, that would be fabulous. Just as soon as I'm done burning through the two sets of MPSC2 and 18" A7s I already have I'll be all over that. I'm curious what the pricing will be.

What we really want is for the 20"s to be as cheap as the 19"s. The car can fit 19"s all around no problem and Hoosiers are made in those sizes. Since they are slicks you need a second set of wheels anyway.

I understand 18" wheels have some drawbacks on this car but what's wrong with a second set of wheels with 19" Hoosiers?

I asked hoosier in mid january, they said:

Mark,
Thanks for writing and good question. We do not have 20” R7 and A7 tires just yet but hopeful to have some sizes Summer / Fall of this year.

The short term option is to purchase after-market wheels – 19” – for your rear of the car to fit some A7 tires on them now.

Can you send me your Rim Widths so I can recommend an appropriate 19” A7 for you.

Glad to help and thanks for writing.

Mark,
Thanks for the current rim sizes you have. If you purchased aftermarket 19 x 12 wheels for the rear this is what I would recommend.

19 x 10: (46935) P295/30ZR-19 R7 - $397.00 each
(Diameter – 26.1” x Tread Width – 10.4”)

19 x 12: (46950) P345/30ZR-19 R7 - $481.00 each
(Diameter – 26.8” x Tread Width – 13.0”)

Makes sense. So I'm guessing folks just want to save money by using OEM 20" wheels. That's cool but imo the stock wheel is a little weak. If you drive aggressively cutting apexes you're going to find their limits pretty quickly. The ZR1 wheel might be a better choice, but even then it's not a high quality forging. Then if the tire is more expensive than smaller sizes you lose what you save in the wheel on tires (which have to replenished often).

For me it's more a function of the fact that I already have 3 sets of OEM sized wheels and a set of 18's. If I could find a set of 19x12 rears that match one of the existing sets of fronts I'd be all in.

Although, I just had to replace one of my cup wheels after I hit a pothole and it cracked so maybe some stronger might be in order. That wheel warranty is starting to really pay off.

Oh that looks bad. I bent two OEM wheels already. I know people shy away from heavy wheels, but heavy especially if forged is the way to go.

I bent an OEM wheel too. Like I said, that wheel warranty is really paying off.

I am going with CCW A10s, 18 X 11 fronts and 18 X 13 rears, made for road racing. Have a wheel crack or explode at speed and you will wish you had gone for good wheels.

Are you guys in this thread recommending to not use the OEM wheels for track use?

Enlighten me on this. I've been told they are perfectly fine for tracking......Purely from a safety aspect. Not tire wear...

Check out the C6 Z06 rear wheels.
