Are you referring to products like Opti or CQuartz? If so, it is very much worth it in my opinion! Get the car polished to remove any paint defects and then seal it. You don't have to wax the car, the coating is semi-permanent and makes cleaning the car much easier!
I have first hand experience and this is CQuartz Finest on my Z06 and on top of XPel Ultimate:
There will be many options and suggestions offered, all of course commensurate with your price comfort. I initially applied Blackfire Crystal Seal but later acquired and applied CQuartz Finest myself. I am a diehard DIYr and have a bad habit of tackling supposed difficult tasks and posting how easy they really are with care and taking ones time. I have posted threads on Carbotech brake installation, most recently Corsa Double Helixx X-Pipe...and also this one on ceramic coating your vehicle...
CQuartz is the bomb!! I applied it on my car and week later took it for a ride in the country. Picked up a few bugs on the way and they literally just wiped off very very easily without the use of any detailing spray or anything just a cloth. Unfreaking believable stuff!!
Oh and my neighbor watched me wipe bugs off so now he is getting ready to do his C6 as well.

Sure am glad we live so far apart Razor06 as I would get pissed wondering why my FOB isn't working on my car! Locally, I only have Manny to contend with who is the other of the DSOM triplets. Looking at my avatar and your picture, one who be hard pressed to say they weren't one in the same shot eheh.

Just had my car done last with with Ceramic Pro and Xpel on the front bummer and side vents. It's the real deal! It rained the other day and I brought the car into the garage and took a leaf blower to blow all the water off and it was totally clean.
