Default Cabin Temp control

On all my vehicles I always just set the climate control on auto and set it at a certain temp and they will comfortably hold it. If I want a little cooler I'll drop it a digit or two and done. But my Z isn't like that. If I set it at 71 for instance and it's hot outside it'll freeze your *** off then start getting warmer till you get uncomfortable then it will freeze you again. Like its all over the place just seems weird that it's 50 degrees outside and it'll get hot as all heck then then a/c kicks in and it freezes you. (I'm exaggerating slightly) but I doesn't regulate itself like my other rides do. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me or just my car??

The best two cars I had as far as the A/C goes, was a 1990 Cadillac and a 1997 Buick, as you described. Both had perfect operating systems. No extremes in the operation.

My 1998 C5 was all over the place as is my 2009 Z06.

My '14 Stingray did this and so does my '15 Z06. I don't use the auto setting I just control it manually.

I don't ever get to the freezing part after being hot, it just stays hot in the car. I don't really understand why the car doesn't crank the AC higher automatically. I think perhaps the temp sensors are higher in the car and much of the heat is in the footwells so the car doesn't know to cool the cabin stronger? I have no idea, but I do figure this car is going to be way hot when it's over 100 here in SoCal this summer.

I'm sure it'll be fine in summer because when I manual mode it does get it on and works great. I guess I'm just used to automatic settings by entering desired # and it gets it there holds it. I agree it might be sensor placement. With a 72setting its hot you drop it to 71 then it's cold cold! You lower it to 68 for a few seconds then back to 71 and it'll be hot and 70 will be freezing cold. I just brought on a 400mile one way road trip and it finally held steady after about an hour on the road.
Not a deal breaker as I love my Z I was just hoping it was just my car doing that so I could take it in and maybe they check it and find a bad sensor or something. I'll prolly call the dealership tomorrow anyways and ask.

My experience is quite a bit different. I start the car and drive around and it's fine. But as the car gets hot from driving in the city, I need to keep turning the temp further down until I'm at 66-67. But if get on the freeway, which I don't do much, the hot air blows away from the car and it actually gets more comfortable in the cabin. Trouble is that I am always in the city driving slow or in the canyons having a good time. So it seems like it's always pretty hot in the car! But with the ventilated seats and manually operating the AC, I don't mind. I think it's kind of cool actually that the car is so powerful, makes so much heat, and is so purpose built that I have to sacrifice a little heat.

Do you have the sync button pushed? Is the passenger temp set weird?

It's pushed for certain. I know there was an HVAC system update but my car is a 2016 so I would think it have it already.

Uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh! Crap!! Heck no! That fixed it!! Thanks a lot!!! I feel stooooooopid!! Wife is always hot so her side was set on 64 once I hit the sync button and both went to 71 it all worked out great! They were fighting each other apparently one side trying to get cold AF and the other side warm cuz it's been cool.
Forums came through once again! Thanks dude!!!

The best systems are the old BMW/RangeRover ones with the red-blue "hot-cold" adjuster in the center vent. You could get the overall temp how you wanted it and then adjust the temp of the air in your face independently.

I've had where the passenger, given no controls of their own to play with, has monkeyed with the temp and left it set really high, cooking me out until I caught it (as appears to be the case here). Except that's ONLY ever happened in the Corvette, and I think it's just where they place the passenger controls induces people into playing with them.

I went into "settings" and found "max fan speed " in auto mode. It was a little more than halfway. I adjusted to full. Now for me the temp stays better. I think the factory setting may be low to make it quieter. I don't find it too noisy now but some might.

Yup, I did this as well and it helped. I'm pretty sensitive to these types of sounds and don't usually care for them, but in this case the rest of the car is loud enough that the louder fan isn't too bad. I did just have a CTS loaner car this week and I was surprised at how loud the fan was. This would actually be a deal breaker for me on a car, I'd never purchase one that had a lot of fan noise. I may be a bit weird.
