I ordered a short USB cable and use the one behind the NAV screen. I thought that might interfere with the GPS signal, but it doesn't seem to.

I'm choosing the one under the console. Leaving the phone there as well. With Android Auto you can do most normal functions right from the infotainment system. I'm really looking forward to using Google Maps.

I leave my IPod connection behind the factory Nav, except when it's really hot weather. It just shuts down when overheated.

Default silly question.. but..

in order to use, say Google maps, doesn't one need to keep the wifi service, hence OnStar?

Not interested in keeping OnStar so contemplating whether need to go in and get Android auto installed..

No - it uses the phone for the data service. Basically android auto turns your navigation screen and touch input into an extension for your smart phone.

Do we have to take our 2016's to the dealer to have Android Auto or Car Play, or Google Maps installed by them?

If not, what is the proceedure to download it into the C7 with the Iphone?

Any assistance is appreciated.

I can only speak for Android phones. There is an Android Auto app that I downloaded onto my HTC phone. But I have yet to go to the dealer and have them do the software upgrade needed so that my car will interact with the app. My understanding is that google maps will then work through the Android Auto app.

My local dealer took 3.5 hours just to install AA in my 2016.

Needless to say I wasn't real happy with the dealership.

Not in my vette, but my new Malibu took 3 tries and over 3 hours also, tech mentioned they have been having issues with the update.

Not sure I want to be the first for the install. Infotainment system is working great. Really want to keep it that way.
Has anyone had the install done by their dealership yet?

Will this work on my 2015?

I agree, but just remember that you have 100K pt warranty and all our 16's only have 60K.

I'm starting to explore new territory with the nicer weather and I'm using Android Auto a lot. I love it. Especially that I can just speak the destination and not the address.

Question - my Samsung S7 gets super hot after a while. Is this happening to anyone else?

Well I watched and mine took longer than necessary someone kicked the power cord out of the wall that was hooked up to battery. Tech had to find a work around so we could start over.

Yes, my Edge S7 heats up like crazy...but it's because it keep the screen on and it's charging - so, normal!
