Default Difference between Z06 OEM rims; Cast and Machined logo?

Hi everyone,

Not even GM seems to know this answer.

I have a good priced by my Dealer for two rear OEM wheels.

My challenge - is the black and white drawings GM uses show the exact same rim and one is "cast logo" and the other "machined logo".

I have stock Spectra Grey Wheels - my car is a Z07.

I looked at my wheel pics that I have (it's getting modded so I don't have it to see) and I appear to have a cast logo recessed into the wheel.

If anyone can please tell me the difference - that would be awesome as I cannot return the wheels.

Our wheels are cast, including the logo, and are made in China. Very expensive through the dealer for poor quality wheels. They are heavy and fairly weak with a tendency to bend with the stiff sidewall run flats.

Custom wheels, like Forgeline or Finnspeed are far better and true, made in the USA from solid billet. About 2/3 the weight and much stronger, but also more costly.

Thank-you CM - here's my question - what are the "machined logo" wheels GM offers for about 40 buck more? I know my wheel lip for the spectra grey wheels are machined - but this says "machined logo". I nor GM (unfortunately) has any idea.

Any thoughts?

It sounds complicated but very simple. Cast logos are usually not as crisp since it is part of the casting process. Machined logos are exactly that, machined, and they look very detailed and crisp. I've ordered several sets of the machined and they are cut out very well and details, the logos.

Thanks Gene - do you have a picture? I'm guessing then that stock Z06 or Z07 rims are all cast? Are the machined rims made in China too?

I don't pay attention or did not pay attention to where they are made. It doesn't bother me. I don't care. I don't have any photos. It is just obvious when you look at it.

Understood - I'm just trying to figure out the differences. As far as you know - the stock wheels are all cast? Does anyone get machined from the factory?

Are you thinking some of the wheels are billet?

No - I am just trying to understand what GM is offering me as I have to choose between the two; "cast logo or machined logo". It's confusing and there are no pictures - only drawings - black and white with zero detail.

Really I just want the same as what I already have on the car - and I am guessing that they are cast. I am hoping someone can verify that.

I have spectra grey wheels on my 2016. I just checked and mine appear to be machined. The edges look sharp. I tried taking a picture for you but grey on grey looks like grey.

The spectra grey wheels have a machined lip - yes - I have the same wheels. The description is machined or cast logos. That is different.

I am looking to find out what we get stock - it seems to be cast logos. But I am wondering what machined looks like and if anyone has them.

I was referencing the logo which appears to be machined on my set. If you make the wrong choice and end up mixing and matching cast for machined logos, I don't think anyone would notice. I actually didn't know there was a logo until last night when I looked for it.

Wow - these were stock factory wheels? Would you be able to take a quick pic of them and post?

Much appreciated!

Here you go... 2016 spectre grey. The edges are sharp so I would think the logo is machined.

Thank-you for the pic! I see what you are saying about some of the edges - I will have to compare to mine (it's away from me at the moment getting some adjustments lol)...

I was wondering also and reviving this thread. Do Z06s typically ship w cast logo Z06 wheels? Ill need to pull wheel off to see part #

Are all the Z06 OEM wheels also cast? Do they offer a forged multispoke?

Ill just take this as an opportunity to dog GM in their shitty wheel offerings. Even the 40k Focus RS comes with an optional $1600 forged wheel set.

26lbF/28lbR wheels are ridiculous. For a 100k supercar competitor, I'd expect that on a camaro. Not a z06.

I think their is no such thing as machined logos' they are all cast on stock wheels!
