Need a little help on '16 Z06. Want to know how to remove triangular trim piece behind frt tire. I know it has a 7mm bolt on bottom, but how to get it off from there. Figure to ask before I start in with screwdriver/v-grips. Please no speculation, need someone who has done it for specific instructions so I don't damage trim piece or clips or whatever holds it on. Thanks in advance!
There are 3 screws which hold the inner fender liner to the fender however they are under the front wheel opening flare extension moldings.....see attached picture. Just pry the black molding off the fender and it will come off.
there is only one screw on the bottom that must be removed, then just pull the clips off. I initially used a popsicle stick as a prying tool when I did it the first time, but then I just used my fingers.
On the rears, if you are using GM splashguards, you will have to take the clip nut off the bottom screw hole of the original piece (once the piece is removed), and clip it on to the new splashguard.
Does anyone have pics with GM splash guards installed on a Z? I have seen many on C7s but haven't seen them on a Z. Are they the same part number as the base car or different?

Nevermind.. Chev.com shows they are the same for all 14-17 Vettes. In that case I already know what they look like.
In general, do people condone buying/using the GM issued front/rear splash/mud guards/flaps over, say, ACS?
Thanks/Thank you
I installed the GM rear splash guards, which only protrude about a half an inch or so. But I don't consider that spot to be too crucial. On the fronts, I installed the $13 auto parts store mud flaps so they covered the entire width of the front tire. (front tires stick out about 2-1/2" from the lower rocker; none of the commercially-available splash guards cover the tires fully). I removed the stock trim piece and attached them to it with five short screws, then pushed the clips back in and tightened the one screw. Easy to do and removable too. While they may look big in the picture below, they are hardly noticeable in person and when I have mentioned them to people at shows they always said they looked stock. Combined with my side skirts I hope they will minimize stone chips. So far so good at 2,500 miles. --Bob
I know you weren't asking me but I just did these yesterday. Can't bring myself to call them "mud guards"-Ha! Got mine from OReily's & they are Premier Fit Splash Guards, size C (important so they are long enough/wide enough), 2 #'s on pkg, 4322/4187864 Plain unless you want Dodge or Ford on them Mounted mine 5/8" out at top of trim, 2 1/2" out at bottom of car trim & 2 1/2" down from bottom of car trim.I will admit first try I wanted them really low for max protection (4") but was getting slight brushing on road taking curves/dips so moved them up. Used black #10, 5/8" screws that have convex/concave washer on them & used spring rectangular washer on other side to draw hardware up nice & tight. Side skirts next. Sorry if I butted in

forgot pics (old sum-bitch)! Also, mine don't butt up against the fwd wide trim over tire so you may prefer to & I took off the triangular trim piece behind tire then screwed flaps to it & re-installed. (Didn't screw it directly to body as some have preferred).

MadRob202's response will be more helpful to you. I don't know exactly what brand I used, but I had seen the same brand in several auto parts stores. Pretty generic. I went to AutoZone and got the ones that were about 18" long by 9" inches wide for $13 and trimmed them to fit. --Bob
Good job. This is the only way to really protect the car. No one that I have seen makes them big enough. I stuck mine on with double sided tape for the drive home, but will get around to mounting them with screws. I will probably do some custom trimming to make them look different and trim on the inside so rocks don't hang up on them.
(djnice) By pulling off the triangle car piece you don't have to remove tires to drill. Just lay splash guard on car trim piece, trace line on inside portion of triangle & wa-la, perfect fit. Use small C clamps to hold loosely till you get measurements right, then tighten to drill pilot holes (keep 'em small). Put outside screws very near outside edge of trim piece so no gap but be careful not to distort lip of triangle w/washer or when clamping. Gitr done!
I left the factory black wheel opening molding off so the mud flap (elephant ear) would fit snuggly and also made a small metal bracket to screw to the bottom of the flap and into the factory bottom 7mm screw...to hold the bottom of the flap secure. One additional thing is to turn the steering wheel lock to lock and verify there is clearance between the new flap and tire....at one point on each side mine got really close so I trimmed a bit more off from the inside.
