I also have the show n go setup but leave the front plate in the trunk. So far, I haven't been stopped for no front plate. I figure if I do get pulled over I'll try using the excuse that I was just at a show and removed it for the judging and must have forgot to put it back on.
The only time I ever got "hassled" for no front plate was on my old 2001 C5 convertible. It was soon after I bought it. A cop pulled me over because he just wanted to check out the car (even told me that). Then he said, "I see you have no front plate. I know Corvettes look much better without it." Then he asked me a few questions about the car and said have a nice day.
That was 15 years ago. If one day I do get fined for it, I figure that's a small price to pay for so many years of an unadorned front end.

As I mentioned early on, I have one sitting in a box. I will have it installed when my new splitter goes on in a few weeks. I have my plate mounted to the aero mount at the moment. It just looks so damn ugly in the middle of the grill on the Z. it make me want to .....

Used to be that way here in TX. We have so damn many rookies coming out of the academy right now. Damned if the training officers aren't using the law for what I refer to as a benign traffic stop. They know damn good and well that the average Corvette driver is not going to create issues.
Your state assesses points iirc in addition to a fine. TX law has no points, $200 fine with a huge loophole. $10 administrative fee if the plate is on vehicle at time of initial request for a court appearance. This is done so that the issuing officer does not have to waste time on a court appearance for a class c misdemeanor that assesses no points to ones drivers license.
A few years ago a lot of the Chicago suburbs were going after 3/4 ton pickups. Anything over 8,000 pounds has to have a heavy truck tag AND either an annual or twice annual (can't remember) brake inspection. That law dates back to the 1940s when over 8K meant a true large truck which would have likely had air brakes; the pickup market has changed a lot since then. I never got a straight answer from the DMV whether that is a curb or actual weight measurement because I got conflicting return calls from an inquiry I left. My GMC 2500HD diesel is private (not commercial or farm) use and only very rarely (maybe twice a year) has enough in it to have a laden weight of over 8K. But I still have to deal with the stupid archaic regs.
It can be done. Statute here in TX as in other states forbids law enforcement from using vehicle tint on front side windows darker that allowed by law excepting a dedicated surveillance unit. Those, cannot however be used for regular patrol duty because of the diminished visibility.
I understand that but what does LE agencies using tint have anything to do with this thread. Further, why would any civilian care....oh let me guess, "cause I cant do it".....

LE breaking the law does not fly! I see them breaking the law I will write a THEM ticket. Anyone can write anyone a ticket that must and will be enforced by the courts in Oregon.
Nothin worse than a law breaking cop!
They are examples for the public and must be held to a high standard!

Thanks! I know your being sarcastic but nothing worse than a cop breaking laws we read about them.
Sworn to follow and uphold the law. I know a thing or two about cops since I ate 100's of meals with them. Since my father in law was a Lancaster Co Sheriff for 35 years and died a Sheriff. Then my uncle was a 35 year cop as well and I used to stay with them every summer. Yeah I will write a ticket if they get way out of line in Oregon I also report them if I see them otherwise with poor conduct.
The worse show on TV is on spike called "Jail" . If you watch it is the ABUSE center instead of Jail. The jailors are on such a power trip one little move and they dog pile and abuse the poor drunks.
One Portland jailer was sued because he was 250 and whipped the 150 pound drunk in to the cement wall knocking the guys teeth out on the floor.
A drunk is not the threat they make them out to be. I have a lot of drunk friends even guys bigger are no problem.
A drunk can be out wrestled and put down in seconds. (former student coach) They have no balance. I have done several pins in my own house. The cops bend everyone wrists a method shown to me by my Uncle he always practiced on me bending my wrists back. They do it to control you but most anyone will fight and resist if you bend them so they bend the wrist while you are in cuffs for any remark. Thus then it is now resisting arrest but the cause is the wrist bending.

Must make things interesting for the commercial vehicle enforcement folks. Especially now that it is no longer a golden goose for the IL Sec of State police as it once was.

Anyone have a picture of the second type of factory frame?
And can you confirm that neither or them require holes to be drilled (like it did on my C6...that was painful to watch! ).
Neither requires any holes be drilled. Both use a type of expandable plastic molly to hold the bracket to the grill. The one pictured is the areo mount. And yes, the plate must be bent slightly into a V shape in order for the two halves of the plate to to lay flat on the recessed portion of the mount. One mounted, if one takes a scribe and traces around the edges of the plate and then removed from the plastic mount, the excess polystyrene can be trimmed away. Exactly what a number of us did with the aero mount for the base C7. This allows for more air flow and, gives the effect of having the plate float as it were mid point of the grill. Once the excess is trimmed back and the plate mounted, the mound is not visible once on the car.
I hate the way it looks but I just zip tied it to the front of mine. Car is a daily driver and I don't need to be harassed by LE and potentially be late to work.

Mount the plate to the aero mount. Use a scribe to trace around the license plate. Remove plate and cut away excess plastic. I used a hacksaw blade. Then I used a sanding block to smooth the the edges. Once mounted to the grill, the license plate looks as if it is floating mid center of the grill. Removing the curved sides of the aero mount also allows for more air flow. Once the stage 2 splitter is installed, I will install the Sho N Go bracket and do away with the grill mount.
I use the removable bracket (& heavy velcro) from Top Flight Reproductions...works fine.
The GM AeroPanel pictured above is removable as well. It is designed that way so people can take it off when running at a track event. Don't really need to buy an aftermarket removable bracket.

Not sure why you bothered with the trimming. The panel is removable so if you need the extra air flow all you have to do is take it off and put it back on when driving on the street. Trimming off that small amount of is incrementally better than useless as far as increasing air flow.
I have been stopped a couple of times for no front plate over the years. After the second time I put the front plate on and have had one on my car ever since - including the current Z.
