I'd want one that was well maintained but also beat on some. Screw the cars that " have never been above 4500rpm and only been driven on Sunday..."

Other than that I'm not sure what you can do to 100% verify if the car has been "abused". With a dealer I would put zero stock in what they say about the car, unless the owner happened to work at the dealer and you could talk with him directly. I would only buy a car like this private party, but that's just me. Good luck!

Hours on the phone.... yeah you found the right seller...

As stated above? Ask to see whatever service records the dealer may have on the car. The service history might tell you if the car had to be serviced frequently. If so, it's a "migraine vehicle".

Why would someone want to sell a car with that few miles? Can't know unless you can find out the prior owner's name. Who knows, maybe he developed a health issue? Maybe his wife got pregnant and he had to trade it in on a family car? Lol. Not all stories are evil.

Do your homework as best you can ...

I was in the same dilemma last year when I got my Z06. The used one that I was looking had 3500 miles and was in very good shape. They were asking 84 and I got it down to 79k but once I calculated the cost of a new one from Kerbeck it was a no brainer. I got more options than the used one, a full warranty and no previous owner for 6k more. Price out a new one compared to the used one before making your decision.

No, but it's better to err on the side of caution and presume so.

Exactly right, sir.

A local here in Springfield, MO bought a new 2015 Z06. He quickly trashed the M7 in short order. GM originally refused to replace the transmission but did replace the transmission under warranty(customer goodwill gesture) but then GM blocked the warranty because the car had been 'abused'. GM's words not mine.

The original owner then traded the car off, and a new owner purchased the car off a used car lot. Shortly after, he was having problems with the transmission, and took the car to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty, only to find out he had purchased a "nearly new" Z06 with a blocked warranty by GM.

Exactly right, sir.
I noticed that a Chevrolet dealer in a very small town about 30 miles from me has a 2016 Z06 for sale with 600 miles. Another small town dealer has three new 2017's in stock(not Z06's) that he is advertising at $12,000 off(one of them with a 17% discount off MSRP) and one for $10,000 off MSRP.

There a ton of C7's(new and used) for sale locally. Some of the used Z06's I found....

2016 Z06 conv 14,348 miles in Springdale, AR
2015 Z06 3,162 miles in Springfield, MO
2016 Z06 conv 4,253 miles in Springfield, MO
2016 Z06 14,375 miles in Marshfield, MO

I would guess that two of them were daily drivers and two of them were weekend and/or nice day toys.

The next day at work (it was a coworker) he remarked you've got a Z06!'..... I was like... Duh!

To be fair I did have the same color Stingray as well before the Z06 LOL!

You can buy a heavily discounted new one for a few thousand more than a used one. The person selling the used one likely paid a lot closer to MSRP and will be unlikely to stomach the loss unless there is a good reason for getting rid of the car (ie something wrong with it).

I've bought a number of used vettes (5) and while there was nothing really wrong with them I spent a lot of time and money on preventative maintenance because I was unsure of how it was treated in the past. The 97 purchased in 2005 or 2006 I spent a lot of money restoring things that had broken. The 07 Z06 I spent time effort and worry about the valve guides. Even at 16k miles they were worn beyond spec. Chevys Fault? Previous owners fault? I know the answer now but I didn't at the time.

The latest one i owned was a 2014 with 2700 miles on it when I purchased Jan 2015. It was still under warranty and there were a few latent electronic glitches that the dealer needed to fix.

I now own a 2016 Z06 that I bought new. Night and day difference on how I'm treated at the service department being the original owner. Even when not at the selling dealer.

Are you sure that's not psychological on your part?

I try to buy some of my vehicles, particularly Mercedes and things that depreciate quickly (even Vettes) at about 18 months old with a factory certified extended warranty. I've never felt I've been treated any different at the service end because someone else was the first owner.

Heck, do they even know most of the time?

I'd say I have a mix of about 50% brand-new and 50% lightly-used vehicles and the service departments don't seem to care.

Now if you're working with your original salesperson who's an advocate for you, that can be different.

I thought about that. But the technician literally told me that after one more try if they couldn't solve the electrical glitch with the radio on the 2014, then I would "need to return to the selling dealer".

He also looked up the history of the car for me and told me it was under GMPP from original owner still (I guess they forgot to cancel).

So yes, they knew.

And when I brought my 2016 Z in for its 500 mile oil change, they were MUCH different in how they treated me.

Same service department.

Mercedes is on a whole different level. They push their certified used cars (which many times have a better than factory warranty) and treat you way differently at the service department than any chevy dealer.

Even on our 10+ year old mercedes we were treated like kings at the mercedes dealer.

For warranty work? Someone was blowing smoke up your rear. Selling dealer matters naught.
