Camaro ZL1 1LE vs C7 Z06 Cooling systems differences?
What is the difference in the cooling system and temperatures on the track between the Camaro ZL1 1lE and the C7 Z06?
Does the ZL1 1LE have an independent oil cooler?
What are the differences on coolant temps?
What are the differences on Oil temps?
What are the differences in IAT's?
Thanks

Unfortunately very few people have 1LEs and can answer those questions. However for the Z06 I can tell you IAT2s are a non-issue on track. Mine never got over 105F during pretty quick track driving in 92F ambients.

The key thing is Frontal Area + 11 Heat Exhangers. The Z06 is already extremely tight packaging wise so is not in a position like the ZL1/1LE to be able to have 11 Heat Exhangers on tap.
The new LT4 tilted bricks have no bearing on cooling/limp mode.
If the question is a track weapon - ZL1 / 1LE all day every day over the Z06. Only difference being you will eat through consumables more as the ZL1/1LE is substantially heavier than the Z06. Mass aside, ZL1 /1LE is the best track weapon for 'consistency.
For the street, Z06 all day long.

Don't the 1LE and non-1LE versions of the ZL1 have the same cooling? There's a fast driver here with a ZL1 and I'll try to get some PDR data from him to compare to mine.

How about we look at some actual data. I'm here at VIR with a very fast driver that happened to bring his new ZL1 (not 1LE and I believe it's an auto). I'll let him chime in if he sees this thread but this guy is *very* fast and turned a 1:55 on VIR full last year at this same event in his Viper.
This data trace from the PDR is the same lap and session with me in my 2017 C7 Z06 manual (in yellow) and his ZL1 (in blue). As you can see, the ZL1 generally ran slightly hotter then that Z06 except in IAT where the Z06 was slightly higher.

I’m still somewhat shocked at the M7 Z06 trans temps. They seem to climb every lap until a session ends. Never reach a steady state. You have any issues with the trans temps Shawn? A buddy’s 2018 M7 popped an orange alert around 260F today.

Here's some roll up data from my fastest 30 minute session on Thursday.

He has a 2018 and uses the new DIC screen that has all the key temps as bars with the digital number above them along with tire pressures. (Really wish I had that screen). The trans temp bar just went from white to orange when he hit 260F. No limp modes or anything though.
Coolant and oil look solid. Do you have any graphs of tire temps and pressures?

I don't. No TPMS in my 18" wheels.

It’s interesting the to see how the Corvette engineers and Camaro engineers go about cooling.

Really, that's easy!? ;)

REALLY a potential ZR1 problem! No way really fast with a stick!

Camaro ZL1 1LE has the same LT4 engine as the 2017, 2018 C7 Z06.
Superchargers are the same. Engine is wet sump oil system with 10 quart capacity. Main radiator configuration is similar to Corvette. Main radiator, A/C condenser, and supercharger intercooler radiator in front. Difference is outboard drivers auxiary radiator is part on the supercharger intercooler system. Outboard passengers auxiary radiator is part on the main radiator cooling system. Transmission oil cooler is laying flat in front of the main radiators and is vented out of the bottom of the front valence unlike the Corvette system. Engine oil cooler is located on the side of the oil pan like the Corvette but is much larger and not near the catalytic converter.
Front grill opening is much larger than Corvette.
I would suspect the upcoming ZR1 has a similar confiuration.

My Z06 will beat a ZL1 1LE in 0-60 and 1/4 mile I know that for aFACT !

If you want to play that game, the McLaren 720s is faster in a straight line and around a road course than a Z06 is and it can be a great car to drive around town. It' basically a more upscale Z06 in a way.

Ran a full tank of fuel at AMP. Ambient 85 degrees. Max water 210, max oil 250, max transmission 200. One session was 35 minutes. 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE weighs 3800 lbs with no fuel, 300 to 400 pound heavier than a C7 Z06. Engine mapping feels better than 2016 Z06.

Transmission cooling is much better than the C7Z.
