Set Oil Life in ZO6 with only 1200 more miles
Any suggestions about needing oil change on my '15 ZO6 going from a change at 5000 miles to 6000 miles? Easy miles.....oil still look fresh! Just want to reset. Good idea??

Oil doesn't "LOOK" fresh. You need an oil analysis done to determine if the oil is still good to run or not. Btw...you're posting this in the wrong section.

I just changed mine last week on my '15 Z06 after driving only 400 miles and 1 yr. lapse since last Mobil 1 oil change. Even though the oil looked okay I decided that since the vehicle was often in storage to eliminate the possibility of moisture condensation in crankcase and sediment accumulation it was best to change to fresh oil. Probably not necessary since the vehicle oil monitor did not indicate time for oil change but for the cost of the engine and coverage of any future warranty claim, I decided to change as a precautionary measure. Change was performed by the dealer and made a matter of record there.

You didn't mention how much time has passed since the 5,000 mile oil change. If more than a year, it should be changed regardless of the number of miles put on.

Yes we all understand that the oil life system is important and that you must change the oil as indicated by this system to preserve the warranty of the engine. HOWEVER, the only way to truly determine if an oil needs to be changed or not is to perform an oil analysis where viscosity, additives and flashpoint are checked as well as contaminants such as fuel and water in addition to metals present.

Why? The additive packages are designed to have best average effectiveness over a certain time/mileage period, and when fresh, the initial strength of the detergent package reduces the effectiveness of the anti-wear additives. So, counter-intuitive as it may seem, one can actually change their oil too often for best engine life. While the difference is probably trivial, it demonstrates that there may not be any real advantage to changing oil more frequently than what the manufacturer recommends. So I don't, and haven't been a freak about it even on my 1000 horsepower engine which has gotten some very hard use. That one went 15 years without a teardown or "freshen-up".

Warp, I have never heard that one. My understanding of oil efficiency is that it's most effective when new and deteriorates over time, and becomes less effective. I have read over the years that new oil will actually allow a motor to make slightly more horsepower, versus older oil. I certainly respect your knowledge and posts but am not convinced that oil with even a few more miles is more effective than new oil. I change it every 3,000 miles. Maybe overkill, but I can't imagine that could hurt. It definetely depends on how you drive, for sure.
I just changed my oil today, with 2,900 miles on it with 19 % left on the oil life monitor (10 months).
