Reverse
Anyone ever have this happen?- Started the car up for the first time, put it in reverse and it doesn't move. Weard. Sat a minute and tried again. It backed up but made a weird noise almost like the emergency brake had released. Maybe the brakes were locked up from being wet yesterday?

I have a 16 Z06 A8 and have had that exact problem after washing the car and after drying it off and putting in in the garage. The pads seem to stick the the rust on the disk. Now I drive it around the block and drag the brakes to get a little heat in the disk and sweep off the water. The problem is gone. If I am in the rain, I drag the brakes a little on the last block and up my drive into the garage. My 2c

Thanks. I went back and found a service bulletin for 2015-17's which describes the exact same prob. A car sits for 8 or more hrs and has a transmission engagement issue. After driving it will not repeat until parked perhaps for overnight again. It also described the noise i heard. Something to due with the o-ring/senor. Hopefully this isn't the case and won't repeat itself.

Thanks for the references. I normally wait for all my vehicles to cycle at start up. I just wanted to back the vette up a few feet didn't think it would matter. Tomorrow I'll start it up, let it run though the rpms and then back up. See what happens...

Normal but annoying for these cars and there is a TSB to fix it but it requires removing the trans so I haven't let them do it because it's not annoying enough to risk letting them take my car that far apart for it!

Well, I just went out and started it up. Waited for the rpms to calm down and it backed out fine. Did seem like the brakes were still a little sticky/ noisy. Newness...Agreed, on fixing: I'm not letting them take it apart either unless there was a serious problem.

He is talking about a different issue. About the brakes sticking after sitting after washing.

No, the tranny was totally unresponsive- put it in reverse and no pull what so ever, dead. Probably the lack of engagement as described. But I think the brakes had also adhered to the rotors as well.

When the pads lock to the rotors via corrosion they will lock up very solidly and with the Z06 with a large swept area they will stick solidly. There was a thread on here shortly after the Z06 was released about an owner who thought the wheel bearings had mysteriously gone bad (it was the brake pad stuck to the rotor) and the tow truck dragged his car about 15 feet in a parking garage leaving black stripes from both front wheels.
If the pads are locked solidly there will be no apparent movement and if the transmission is working properly your clue will be that the engine won't be free revving like it would in neutral but is being loaded by a torque converter with the output shaft locked.
