Practically speaking, no, it is not any slower. Same engine, same suspension, breaks and car bits. Realistically, it probably is slower due to the increased friction and wind drag coefficient over the sh*t eating grin on my face!
They're about 35 pounds different, so no. In fact I've lost more than that since I bought the thing so it's all up to you ;-)
But other than safety the convertible is the better car in so many ways... better sound with top down, quieter with the top up, that sort of thing. Just don't crash! And there are people who live in areas where they'd get their tops cut, I'm just talking about the car itself.
