Default Hard Start

Guys
I writing to see if your Zo6 owners are having a hard start issues with your vettes. When I push my stater button the engine turns over like an old Chrysler for about 8-10 seconds then fires. This happens every time I let my car sit for awhile and sometimes when out doing quick stops around town. Is this a normal occurrence with LT4 engine? My vehicle is a 2016 CTS-V that has the LT4. I brought it to stellarship and was told that's normal! I really don't think so with direct injection! I think I might be having a fuel pressure issue which until the correct pressure is detected the motor will not fire. Thats my shot in the dark, by no means am I correct just thinking out loud. Just wonder if any LT4 owners were having this issue and what action was taken to correct it.

Normal DI start. Both my 2014 C7 and GMC Acadia act this way to build fuel pressure. My port injected older Impala and Trailblazer start "normally."

Probably normal. If fuel pressure has had time to bleed down, the engine needs to turn over long enough to allow the camshaft-driven high pressure pump to build fuel pressure up to normal.

I don’t think 8 or 9 seconds is normal. Are you sure it’s that long cranking to start —- have you actually timed it with the stop watch in your cell phone.

My lt4 seems to crank a second maybe 2. It actually is more instaneous when cold. It’s not like the ls7 which started instaneously all the time. My lt4 is more like my c4 lt5 which cranked a bit before starting.

The long crank times are spelled out in your owners manual, all is normal for the DI engines.

OP that seems a little long to me as well. I've got a 16 Z06 and it doesn't take near that long to start.

If you are really having 8-10 seconds to start there is something wrong. I'd suggest you look at the battery voltage when cranking. My 2017 Z06 takes maybe 3 seconds max no matter how long it has been sitting.

I see your point i've had a 2014 and now 2017 and mine is not like that i would think of it as more like fuel pressure to build up but of course you would need a pressure guage to verify that. But it does start pretty soon which is good. Lets see what others might have to say!

Guys
Thanks for your feed back, I guess I have to get used to my LT4 engine startup time delay. Nothing like my previous LSA engines in my last 3 CTS-V's. Thanks for your replies!

You have the "prime" the system.

Meaning put the car in the "ON" position first, then start the car.

If you do this, car starts in 1 second.
