Mishimoto thermostat running too cold
I installed my second 160* Mishimoto tstat. The first had solidification and locked partially open causing my engine to get awfully warm. Now the second the engine is running too cold. I could only get my temp up to 145 +/- degrees this morning with ambient around 50*. 160 tstats I've had in the past would run about 170* minimum. Looks like it's back to my stock tstat!
Is there a reliable 160* thermostat available now?

I use the LMR housing and 174* Lingenfelter thermostat. Works great.

Only found OEM replacement on their site.
I'll give them a call tomorrow. Not finding it on their site.
Probably prefer a 160* to help keep MAT temps lower in the staging lanes while idling. Seems to me the cooler the engine the cooler the manifold will be.
Thanks guys!

Lmr won’t sell a thermostat as they admitted they haven’t found a reliable one. They will sell the housing and a part number for the thermostat. Im ready to buy myself.

The one Vengence Race sells, I'm told, is a modified GM part none by SDPC Scoggin Dickey a GM part distributor.
They said that they have had no issues with this thermostat.
They have a 160* and a 180*.

You can acquire a JET Low Temp Stat 10167 and swap the bulb in the stock thermostat and use the stock housing. They sell for something like 25 bucks.
I did this last spring. In cool weather it maintains the water temp somewhere between 175-180 when moving. Unless you modify the fan turn on point , stopped or in traffic the temperature will be the same as the stock thermostat after awhile since either way the thermostat will be fully open and you are running on the inherent cooling system and the stock fan turn on points.

8850, call them instead of looking on their website, IMO.

Curious why you bought three? Three different cars?

Interesting you mentioned doing this. Exactly what I ordered yesterday except I ordered a 10166 which is a 160*. The 10167 is a 180* which is a little cooler than stock. Was that you that gave the good write up on doing this? I was unable to find the post. Thanks for the info!
A fail safe method is to order another housing and stock thermostat from Rock Auto or some similar supplier . As I remember the cost was well under 100 for both. That way you can leave your stock housing and thermostat as a backup in case you want to swap back. I did this in the event I couldn't use the Jet bulb in cold temperatures. As it turns out it is fine for any temperatures I am likely to be using the car as under 40F the stock tires are kind of sketchy for any thing but running down the road at the posted speed limit and never applying much throttle to accelerate.

Curious, they sold me one with 160 degree tstat in July this year. LMR did take some time to ship, it took 5 weeks after order date to get mine. Expensive but so was the car and at least it solves the problem.

Yes it was. I don't remember where it is. The temp stamped on the bulb is actually 170. I suppose they have a tolerance which is why I didn't get a 160 since if you hit the low end the water temp may stay too low. I suspect this is why people with 160's sometimes have trouble and sometimes don't.

I have the failed Mishimoto that I plan to use it's housing and keep my stock untouched so if things don't turn out well I can then go back to stock.
I looked on Rock Autos site and all I found was stock tstats.
