a real problem for quite a few vette owners that live near heavily wooded areas, or farms where they store their car in barns.

the reason rats and mice eat new car wiring is that it has soy mixed into it.no joke.it is food to them.

I shoot mine in the field when I cut grass with my 357.

Then the hawks take them off and eat them.

I live in the woods, got cats , they kill rats, mice, moles, bunnies, birds, so I always cover my car with a cover because they kill paint jobs also. you can purchase a water sprayer aerosol from ebay that motions detects and sprays a blast of moist air and now the cats are afraid of the corvette. Everything is great now.

Seriously folks this can be a real issue, and not just for folks who live near wooded areas. I live in a heavily populated suburban area just outside of Dallas and have had major issues with both my company car and my Chevy Silverado tow vehicle. Fortunately have not had the issue with either of my Corvettes but have taken measures to hopefully prevent that. By the time you realize you have the problem you can be looking at literally thousands of dollars in damage - given the intense electronic presence in the C7 and especially the Z06 I can't even imagine the cost of replacing the wiring harness?

If these folks have a solution can potentially prevent that, I'm IN!

The only thing that ever worked for me was leaving the hood open about 10 to 12 inches.
gimmicks do not work!

Sounds like an interesting solution.

I wonder how leaving the hood open would do anything for the various other harnesses like trans, bcm, etc?

Funny thing though, all in my neighborhood hear when I do this and luckily our house hasn't been broken into, but many others have. Of course we have dogs as well, so that probably helps to.

My Z06 is in storage and I put two bait traps full of rodent poison in the sealed unit just in case. Not taking any chances!

We use glue traps, they seem to work very well.

Sadly this is a very real problem!!! We had one client in Maine have his Prius get totaled from all of the damage rats did to his car from wire chewing.
Check out web site for more help full information....Rid-A-Rat.com
We started this project when my husband retired from a fortune 100 company in Avionics. The neighbors all have horses and had many issues with rat damage. HR forgot to give my husband the book on how to retire so he started working how to solve the neighbors problems and help them with their rat problems.
Over 7 years ago, 80,000 out in the field, being sold in over 200 stores and actually orders from over 23 foreign countries! Some of the countries we had to look up to find out were there even where! We are also on Amazon for sales in addition to our web site.
One of our majors goals is good old fashioned service and educating people on how to get rid of rats and save their cars.

Rats are almost everywhere. There are 21 types of pack rats, 8 of which live in the US and 6 of them live in Arizona.
Many people don't even have a clue that rats carry the Junta Virus and the Bubonic Plague! We try very hard to educate people why they should not use a poison to get rid of rats.
A barn doesn't offer that much safety. Garages are better but we suggest that people not keep pet food in the garage. This attracts rats, and walls or not, a rat can chew it's way into almost anything. They can even chew steel! Rats teeth never stop growing and they need a way to file them down. It is almost a non stop job thinning out the herd as new rats eagerly will take over old nests.
Some people are very lucky and don't have any rat problems, but we've heard of problems with anything from mice and squirrels to rabbits and gophers going for the car.
