Default Spring Mountain - my experience

I thought it would be useful for some if I posted a video on exactly what it is like being instructed at Spring Mountain at the Ron Fellows Corvette Driving School. This is an actual track session from my visit. The instructors are great. During this session one of the drivers had an issue, but ended up OK. The folks there are real pros. I learned a ton about how to drive the car. I didn't realize how much I DID NOT KNOW!

Spring Mountain is great, any Corvette owner who doesn't take advantage of GMs offer is doing themselves a real disservice. I've been 2 times, but I did things a bit backwards, I did the 3 day Level 1 with my C6 Grand Sport then this past July did the Owners School with my C7 ZO6 M7. Did the same course you did in the ZO6, but I have been on the newer course by the lake also. For me, I prefer the one you did, I like the elevation changes and there are more turns, the other course is a bit faster, but not as challenging. In July the temps were around 95 to 105 degrees, but I didn't have any issues with that, its a dry heat and you run sessions windows up, A/C on, and class started at 7AM instead of 8. I'm already working on planning another visit, probably Level 2 this time, either way, Rick and his crew run a first class operation.

I haven't run across anyone who's attended who hasn't highly recommended it. There's really no way to explore the capabilities and limits of these car on the street, without endangering yourself and others.

Cool. Do they give you the PDR SD card for your track rides?

I’m scheduled for mid-April and I’m excited to learn how to drive my M7 Z06/Z07 package better. The car is definitely smarter than me.

Very well done video, Tony. To answer your question about pre-PDR days, when I took the 3-day-Z school in July 2012, many of the students either rented or brought their own GoPro cameras. Unfortunately, I never thought to do that and so have no record of my times or driving lines. We did have one very slow driver who, surprisingly, brought his own Vette to the school. He was treated with much respect and encouragement. I missed the 2 day school with my '14 C7 but am looking forward to it with my new Z, perhaps later this winter. Thanks for sharing.

I believe you have to supply your own SD card but am sure they sell them there.

Thanks, all. They had some SD cards there, but I’d recommend bringing one. Reminder - I think the max you can use is 32gb.

I use a 256gb in my car now. Just make sure it's formatted correctly if you're bringing your own.
If you attend a class in the summer, they give you a SD card and an extra night stay included in the price.

Thanks. Is there a special format requirement? I was planning to pick up a standard 64 gb SD card at Staples or some other office supply store. What's the recommended memory?

I just plugged mine in and tested it out of the box and it worked fine.

To be safe you want to format it to FAT32. I think win10 doesn't give that option anymore but theres a lot of freeware out there that will do it.

I have a 2016, and the PDR would not work with cards over 32gb when I went. Just be sure to check. Newer cars may support larger capacity. But, 32gb should be safe!

Per a search, below is a good thread on SD Cards for the PDR. You would think GM would have just included one with the cars equipped with a PDR.

I will be attending on 2/8 and /2/9. Very excited and looking forward to it. I did a five day Bondurant school a few years back and it is amazing how what you learn applies to the street as well as the track. Not talking about racing on the street but just safe driving like looking far ahead and keeping the car (or truck) balanced all the time. I am hoping that since I am SCCA licensed I can get a more advanced class.

Enjoy.

Sad and to see what became of Bondurant.
