Best drag radial for 19x12 rears
To piggyback with my last thread on my 1/4 mile times and lack of traction at launch. I ordered 19x12 rear wheels to swap on when I go to the drag strip. I see some threads mention Mickey Thompson's and some mention Nitto's.
Can anyone that has Drag Radials on 19x12 rims reply with what size they got and any pros/cons? Looking to order tires ASAP to mount on the rims. The Drag Radials will ONLY be used on the track so street driving will remain on normal street tires. Hoping this will be acceptable with stock front tires at the drag strip?
Thanks in advance!

Since you'll be running them mainly at the drag strip, then I would recommend you go with MT. I am running Nittos and they dont hook well once you are beyond 650 rwhp. I will switch to MT later this year

Thanks. Yes, will only be swapped on for the dragstrip. Any other experiences from anyone? I’ve seen a lot of mention for one or the other but not specifically to track only.

MTs will hook way better for sure. Both will be sketchy with the stock front Run Flats.... I don't even like street driving on Nittos NT05Rs with the stock MPSS in front. I'll soon be switching to a Nitto NT555 G2 for the front.

What size MT drag radials are you guys getting? Even on the Mickey Thompson website I don’t see 19”? Am I missing something? I have 19x12 rears

is it really that bad using Nittos on the rear and the stock fronts? My plan was to swap on the 19 inch wheels and Nittos at the track, then put the 20s with MPSS ZP back on the rear for street driving.
I don't follow the problem with stock fronts and rear drag radials...

Not a lot of options for 19s. The NT05Rs are the perfect size for our cars on 19s, but they don't hook like MTs.... On a really good prepped track they are better then you think though... I bet you could still pull 1.4x 60's on a sticky track.
I'm eventually going to R888Rs on 19s all the way around for the street and get some 18s/hoosiers for the rear.

Your best bet is to get some 18x12 reps, then get some 335/30/18 Hoosier DRs or the 345/30/18 MT ET Street Rs (these will be much taller though).

The Nittos look like they have the more aggressive contact patch than the MT drag radials (pic below - Nittos left - MT's on the right)?
Am I missing something else MT have available on the website?
I've had both, but it looks like both Nittos and MT have switched tread design - the MT's look less aggressive and the Nittos now look like my old MT's looked?? It's been 8 years though since I've bought drag radials though, so.
From my experience my MT's did hook better than the Nittos.

The MT ET SS will most certainly hook better then the NT05R...its not just about the tread, its about the compound/sidewall design. The sidewall is much softer on any of the MTs... This is also why the Nittos drive better on the street.
If you are stuck on 19s only, and primarily will be drag racing it, then get the SS. It'll still go 1.4x 60's at a minimum on a good track.
That said, I run the ET Street R on my 71' and that tire is straight dirty....It dead hooks a 10 mph roll with 25 psi in it... Too bad that don't make that tire in a 19".

Its worth a try, but I seriously doubt it. I don't even like the MPSS fronts with the NT05R rears. Its definitely not near as stable as the MPSS all around, and I haven't even been that fast on them yet. I got spooked by 100 and let out. I'm used to driving/racing on questionable tire combos on other cars, and this one was the most unnerving to me. I've trapped 150 mph in the 1/4 on bias ply front runners and radial rears and it tracked straighter then the C7Z on MPSS/NT05s.
