Almost time to replace the original tires and based on very favorable reviews, I was going to go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 plus. However,
I also came across the Continental Extreme Contact Sport. The price is similar. Is one tire better than the other? Anyone have experience with the
Continentals? I don't track the car so that's not an issue. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Continentals are non run flat tires while the AS3s come in a run flat configuration for C7 sizes. Given how good run flats are nowadays there is no downside to going with them. The Continentals may perform the AS3s a little bit better at the limit but they don't outperform the stock tires that come on the car.
Continental ECS are considered the 2nd best tire in the rain (behind Hoosier H20) when autocrossing.
I use them as my rain tire for autocross, and if I'm doing any street cruising, etc. They are phenomenal.
Of course, I use my BFG Rivals for dry autocross (200 treadwear).
I run the AS3+ for cold weather traction. Also swap to them during summer months on long road trips. Peace of mind. They saved my butt on a Sunday night in the middle of "no-where" Oklahoma. Cracked rim started losing air. Stopped and added air from a portable compressor (highly recommend).
