Can anyone suggest what I can do about my 2015 Convertible Z06 cracked windshield? the car is garage kept and inly has 4200 miles on it. Th delamination or crack is on the inside of the windshield on the left side at the top of the pillar. I contacted GM and they said they weren't having any problems with this issue. But reading a lot of the discussions on the forum quite a few people have had this issue. Any help on resolving this issue would be appreciated or who at GM I could contact. I talked to customer service and they said there are no issues. Please Help .
Contact your insurance company. That is a Comprehensive Insurance claim and isn't chargeable from an increased rate standpoint. Same kind of claim as if a large object in your garage fell onto the car and broke the windshield. GM isn't going to cover any damage like that on a 5 year old car. No manufacturer would.
Is there any impact spot at all? Any crack that can be felt with a finger nail or ballpoint pen?
IF there is no physical exterior damage I would go back at GM for sure. You mentioned you see others discussing the same issue on the forums, if GM won't do anything, you can gather all that information and have a lawyers letter sent to them.
That is a lot of trouble for something your insurance will cover, so your call if you want to go through all of that. I would to save having a claim on my insurance and on the CarFax of the car. While glass is a minor claim, I see a lot of people stay away from any car with a claim on it at all
Go to your insurance company as Bill suggested. That's a $1500 replacement. I just had mine replaced after a stone hit it. Hopefully, you have zero deductible glass coverage.
Hard to tell in that photo, but that looks like a crack, not an impact. Fairly unusual as it seems to be originating from the top left edge. The question is whether there are indeed a fair number of these types of windshield cracking issues on the internet. Do some searches if you like. Couldn’t hurt.
Worst case for you, if no significant prior histories, insurance.
We had a transmission fail on a 9 year old Lexus. Way, way out of warranty and really expensive to replace, even with just a rebuild. Started searching on the internet and found it was a fairly common problem, well documented and many complaints. It took a couple months and a lot of calls, but Lexus finally agreed to pay for the tranny and we picked up the hourly mechanics rate.
Good luck with this. Had a spider impact crack on our Z last month about nickel size. $35 to fix. We were lucky.

This is a common occurrencee for c7. Same issue with 15 Z. No chip or any type of impact. When I had my windshield replaced, the shop showed me a metal burr on the pillar from the assembly of the car which caused the crack. I had the burr smoothed down so this would not be a recurring problem.
I am on my third windshield. Gm- forget it. Paid a little over $1000.00 out of pocket since my deductible is $1000.00. This is for windshield with HUD. This time used a company that reportedly has a lifetime warranty on the process. Nonetheless, I am not optimistic long term. I have read that is a good idea to remove the locating pins from the new windshield before install which my installer did.
This is like a stress fracture which certainly could result from an impediment. If there are really that many such occurrences out there, then it’s an assembly issue, a fitment issue, and/or with a car like the Z, possible a vibration issue or any combination of those issues.
When you add up all the C7 Z06 issues, wheels, cooling, A8 issues, etc, it makes me kinda wonder what might be in store for the new C8 owners over the next year or two. My fingers are certainly crossed for them as GM has shown with these Z’s that there are no guarantees or standing track record that shows GM will consistently step forward and own problems related to design or manufacturing issues.
We bought our 2015 ZO6 07 recently also and it only had two thousand miles on it. I was aware of the cracked windshield before we bought it and did all the research like you. I talked to a couple of dealers and it was obviously on a 5 year old car I was not going to get a replaced by general motors.
I ended up going through insurance who used Safelite and they did a fantastic job. I actually only paid $93 extra to get OEM glass although I think aftermarket glass would have been fine as long as you specify the HUD glass.
When I drop it off at Safelite I made them aware that it was not a rock chip but a factory issue. When I picked it up that evening they showed me pictures of the two holes where the plastic nipples on the glass mount into the windshield frame. One hole was definitely smaller than the other where the crack started and he said they enlarged the hole to match the other side this is probably why the windshield cracked as it expanded and contracted with the movement of the car. The small hole did not give it the room it needed.
2000 miles later and so far so good. That is my experience anyway.
From: Murrells Inlet, SC (formally New Windsor, NY)
My 17 Z vert top comes down pretty hard in the last bit of travel during closing. I was always concerned that it could actually crack the glass from how hard it contacts the top of the windshield. To soften the contact, I always put my hand up to grab it and slow it down just before it contacts the top of the windshield.

$100 comprehensive claim. Had a good glass guy do mine I less than two hours. Also gave me a chance to clean and condition the lower part of the leather dash. Windshields are wear items, little knicks and sand pitting so just get in the habit to replace them every two to three years. Some guys do it every year.
2015 Z06 - Convertible - 83,000 miles - have been thru 2 windshields so far - 1 was warranty (35,000 miles) the other (78,000 miles) $900 or so dollars for Safelite brand with HUD
Be conscious of tire shops (or even yourself) using a floor jack that can inadvertently preload the windshield frame

Exact same thing happen to me. Same location. Same type welding burr. Cracked only on the inside glass laminate surface. It was a known problem and GM covered the replacement. However, car was still in warranty.
I did learn the Z06 has different glass than the other models, I would get the OEM glass and have a competent installer put it in that has experience..
I'm getting mine replaced next Tues. I'm not sure how it was broken. I just noticed it when coming back from making a pass last week at the local drag strip. I've got GEICO and Safelite is replacing it for no charge to me. They did call me and Corvette's can't be done outside of their shop. They said it takes more than 1 person to do the job and takes quite a while.
