I had my 2016 windshield warrantied by GM with HUD. The first replacement windshield took 3-4 weeks to come in and was damaged. Dealer ordered a second windshield which took a week or so. This was a year ago. Given COVID, aftermarket or OEM glass, it could be the current normal.
It's covered under insurance in Florida, no deductible. I had mine replaced by Safelite on Saturday. They wanted $700 extra for the GM part, I said screw that and I can't tell the difference. HUD works fine with the Safelite glass. The guy said it's the same two or three manufacturers that make the same glass for different brands depending on the week, the stamp is just different (and the cost, obviously). Needs to be done in shop. If the crack is at the upper corner, it's a standard problem with these cars.
I replaced one and used the OEM, HUD display is a hit or miss sometimes. Safelite told me that some they have issues with and some not. I have another vehicle that had non OEM and nothing worked sensors for light, and wipers. Funny when I hit the dealer with it since it was a CPO they about choked when I made them replace it. They certified it and they stood behind it rare these days.
Some dealers are better than others, nice you got yours replaced. If the car was still in warranty may be worth asking vs insurance claim.
Friend contacted another place who could get one soon so will see how it goes.
thanks again all.
