Well yesterday i waxed my 16 w/8700 miles and proceeded to clean the windows when at the drivers side top there was a smiley faced crack in the windshield. It looked like a stone hit it but there was no chip you could feel -had a friend look at it and he also said the crack was behind the the windshield under the inside a place you would have to take off some interior parts even to get at. there are other spots along the top that look like tiny air bubbles not on top of the glass but under it. Question is is this a warranty issue or just turn it in to my insurance-i Have had no luck at getting anything replaced under gms warr. even though it was clear there were problems, in the past they would have taken great care of any problem I would incur. Never seen a crack like this so please if you have let me know.
Not a warranty item. Please search the forum threads. Sadly a common issue. There are several suggestions as to the possible cause and ways to prevent recurrence.
I had similar crack on my 2015 z06 with 1500 miles on it when I got the car this year. It was the common crack that you see all the threads on. I talked to multiple dealers it was not going to be covered by GM at all plus my car was out of warranty. I went through my insurance they used Safelite and I actually got an oem heads up windshield for just $73. Covered on comprehensive so no points on your insurance. When I dropped the car off I made sure to talk to the technician at Safelite and they actually found one out of the two locator holes on the vehicle was smaller than the other. They drilled the whole bigger to make sure if this was the cause that it would not happen again. No more problems in the last 3,000 miles

This is a known issue. Mine has been replaced twice on my 2016 Stingray. All under warranty. Had to do with the locator tabs that locate the windshield when it is installed on the assembly line. Recommendation from GM was to cut off the tabs when installing by hand. It has nothing to do with temps, speed or loads of any kind.
If you feel the crack from the inside and not the outside you have that issue.

Yes, they can be a little problematic. A good glass shop should be able to make it almost undetectable. Of course you will know it's there, unless you replace it.
As I said when I had my 2015 done at Safelite I got an OEM GM HUD windshield as it says GM on it. Not necessary but for what little extra it cost worth it to me!
It is a false idea that you will get a GM OEM windshield if you purchase the glass from a dealer's parts department. GM's Service Parts Division sources windshields from various manufacturers that meet the specification. That means the markings on the glass may not be the same as the ones on the windshield installed at the factory. The markings depend on the manufacturer that made the windshield.

I hadn't noticed that before. Thanks for posting it.
Most Glass installers Does not like to use the GM windshield for it takes a week to get one.
Yes I had to wait. However it wasn’t a big deal since I needed an appointment as these cars take a bit longer due to having to remove a few parts to swap it out.
My windshield cracked top to bottom in a perfect straight line, right down the center while it was covered in the garage. . Safelight replaced it with a HUD certified windshield. It actually said HUD compliantly right on the glass. When i drove off, noticed the HUD was blurry and had a shadow. I called them back and they offered to replace with a GM original. Waited a week and they put the GM one in and all is good so far. Moral of the story is to ask Safelight for GM original as their version makes the HUD blurry.
I seriously doubt that GM windshields are faulty. Stress from a burr on the frame or something to do with the alignment pins as mentioned in this thread sounds more likely.
