Default Dreaded P0106 :(

So the wife was tracking her 2017 z06/z07 yesterday and this ruined her day! Complete stock. Happened after a morning of no problem track fun, and then first run of the afternoon it happened. She brought the car in. I scanned it, attempted to clear which it would not do (using standard veepeak OBD2), and she took it back out. Same exact thing happened again doing about 125 on the back straight of Homestead Miami. I speed read some god awful thread on the subject full of people bitching at each other with zero clear solution. That thread was from 2017. This is 2022 and for god sakes I hope this has been resolved. The car only has about 5000 miles on it. We bought it with 4000 miles. We have done 8 other track weekends with the car since we bought it a year ago and this has never happened. We have another homestead event this weekend and would like to get this resolved ASAP! I have the official GM programmer and software. What can I do to fix this!?

to make matters worse I JUST bought a 2018 z06/z07 for myself replacing my Lamborghini Gallardo. This does not make me comfortable!

Back then that update was covered under the B2B warranty. Now you will probably have to pay the dealer to do the update but if you are a silver tongued smooth talker maybe they will give you a price break. Make sure you get to the dealer while the code is still in the history file.

I have the OEM GM programmer and don't mind paying for the software. would this allow installing the update?

It should if that equipment allows you to install GM software into the cars modules.

I am not familiar with the exact GM procedure or the equipment you have but a call to your dealers service dept asking what equipment is required to upload this update might be a good start.

it is a MDI2 diagnostic/programmer with GDS2 and vehicle Programing subscription. I am working with them (AcDelco) on updating my account to use the new tech connect system which requires a login via the software. I attempted to use it tonight, but tech connect would not accept my AcDelco website login. I believe once I have access I will be able to do it easily. I hope!

Is the fix just a software update?

OK I purchased the SPS2 software for 2 VIN, GDS2 (not needed for this) and MDI2. A technician at Bomini Chevrolet walked me through the process (AWESOME GUY!).

Webpage with the software:
ACDelco TDS

First, you log on to the ACDelco techline connect website. Buy SPS2 for one vin ($40!). Then choose vehicle programming software (view) and add VIN (unless you have already used SPS2 before). This brings you to a tech connect install/load page. Download and install the Techline Connect software from this page.
Run the MDI2 program and make sure your MDI2 is up to date
Then go back to the website, Choose vehichle programing software (view), add vin, then click launch Techline Connect. This will load Tech Connect and update/install (ONLY WORKS ON WINDOWS 10! Windows 11 will NOT properly load the program due to spaces in the filenames!)

Once all of the updates/installs are done, restart, go back to the SPS2 page and click the launch teachline connect once again. Now your SPS program should launch. Connect your MDI2 to the car and the computer, wait for everything to update/initialize. Connect to the car via the button at the top, choose MDI2. somewhere in this area, the program alerts you that you will be using one of your VIN slots for SPS2. You then be led through a series of pages, answer the questions and remember you are wanting to PROGRAM the NORMAL (not VCI) Engine Control Module K20. you proceed through the pages by clicking the green NEXT button in the bottom right of the screen. I can't remember the exact pages, but it was not that complicated. It will download the tune from GM TIS2WEB automatically once chosen, you WILL need internet on your laptop that you are using for this! Once you program the ECM it will return to the same page. You will know you are using the correct program as it will ACTUALLY mention PROGRAM to FIX P0106 as one of the line items! Also, you can clear the DTCs after you reprogram by pressing a button on the bottom right.

VERY IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE you use the PERMANENT ACCESSORY ON by holding the start button WITHOUT pressing the brakes until all systems are on, and THEN releasing it!

Feel free to sticky this, use it on the site, or whatever I will be updating it with more precise instructions when i do my 2018 z06 next week!
