Hi there, the hood insert refers not to the hood vent but the top part of the hood (i think it was a $2k option back in the day).

Yeah I know, I had finally found a take off insert hood that I bought from a forum Member and it got destroyed in shipping because he didn’t pack it correctly. So I’m still looking.
The OP was asking about the CF hood insert, not the vent. Try reading the post. As I said you have to buy the GM hood with the insert or a take off to get the CF insert. Yes you can get an aftermarket CF vent as an alternative, which I have done because the take off hoods are extremely rare and buying a new CF insert hood is prohibitively expensive. There is a glossy CF product that is available from : Avery Gloss Carbon Fiber that you can put on the raised part of the hood where the insert goes. I was advised by several forum members that you can tell it’s not real CF easily so I decided not to go that route. As far as the CF decals sold on eBay, they’re a matte finish and you can really tell it’s fake.

if you would have read my reply you would have understood that i had never seen a cf hood insert,and you insert the hood vent into the hood.that is what i thought he wanted until i saw a pic of a gm cf hood insert.i thought that the cf behind the hood vent was a decal,not some insert.

now im confused! is everyone talking about the exterior vent or the piece under the hood that vent mounts up to? I have seen the underhood piece in carbon fiber for sale on here for about 600$

It is not an insert, the entire hood is carbon fiber and the other portions are painted. The upper middle raised section is just exposed carbon fiber. Hood costs like 5 grand and I don't even think it is available as a replacement.

Wow thanks for the update it is good to learn, I thought it was similar to the CF roof panel where it is one piece that has painted sections. Looks like they cut a section of the hood and insert the portion of CF with a nice weave on it for appearance. I wonder if there are any shops capable of doing the same thing and can match the OEM quality.
