Default Fueling question

I watched a video on YT the other day that makes me ask what might be a silly question. Obviously, the DI on our cars is one of the big limitations for making more power. I see kits that add port injection or people do injectors/cams/low sides/etc. to make up for this. In this particular video the guy blocked off the DI injectors on his engine with plugs and used only port (w/ an aftermarket controller because of his application). Would it be possible to block off the DI, add one of the port kits, utilize the stock computer with tuning to control the port injection and do away with some of the issues that people have with DI when it comes to making more power? I'm guessing there's an obvious reason this wouldn't work or someone would have done it by now but I'm no professional so thought I'd ask.

You can't use the stock ECU to control port injectors, unless it is the ZR1 ECU. That setup must have been unique. Not sure why anyone would want to delete DI and add port only. Adding port to make up for fueling while keeping DI would be optimal.

What he said. You need something else like a holley or reflex to controller port injection. No reason to turn off DI. You would use that for idle-half throttle driving, then let port injection ramp in above that/WOT.

Both statements above are correct, you want to keep the DI and add the port.
The DI adds the in-cylinder knock suppression (cooling) that a port only engine lacks and is the primary reason for the increase in power found between the LS and LT engine families.

Thanks for the answers. I figured there was a reason people hadn't done it.
