Default Code p0446

So been doing some research on this code and seems to be related to valve pressure letting gas fumes out. Let me ask, so I have a 2019 z06 and when I am pumping gas, the pump will stop intermittently I am wondering if something there is causing the code to come up. could it be the corvette gas funnel which has no cap now broken somehow? Does anyone else have this experience? Thank you in advance

These cars have a restrictive filler pipe, so they frequently kick off the gas station pump. That is a function of the sensor on the pump nozzle. Your P0446 is a problem with the fuel tank vent system...unrelated to the gas station pump kicking off.

Both of my Corvette's do that. it's just a little aggravating. Sometimes I rotate the nozzle up 180 and it seems to do a little better. So I don't think that would cause that code.

Especially when filling up with E-85. Since it's cheaper the pump runs a little faster.

The Evaporative Emission Vent Valve is located forward of the right rear wheel well liner. Check for a blocked or kinked hose.

I'm seeing the dreaded "P0446" pop up every time I drive now, but I haven't had time to troubleshoot it.

One other symptom I've been experiencing concurrently, is the fuel pump nozzle constantly clicking-off when putting gas. I don't mean clicking-off 2 or 3 times like it normally does. It is clicking-off 20 times or more, very annoying, and then the tank is not even full. There must be a restriction in fuel tank ventilation.

Since I'm on the topic, I have to also gripe about the fuel door lock. Maybe 4 years ago or so, I pulled up to the pump and the freaking fuel tank door would not open. Had to drive home on fumes. Curse you GM !!! Somehow I was able to bend the latch so it no longer locks.

With the P0446 you have either a bad vent valve (normally open) and if stuck closed you will have issues filling your tank…this may also be a restriction or blockage in the vent hose….you need a bidirectional scan tool to accurately diagnose this.

Thanks, I was able to run my X-tool scanner this afternoon. The fuel tank pressure sensor, vent solenoid, and purge solenoid all seem to be functioning properly. The code is only thrown when you get down on the gas, leading me to think that a partially clogged Canister Charcoal Filter might be the culprit. This Saturday I'll remove the wheel to do some troubleshooting. In the meantime I ordered the vent solenoid and Canister Charcoal Filter. Will post an update next week.

If the vent valve is OPEN with ignition on you will see 1.5 volts on your fuel tank pressure sensor data PID…1.5 volts is atmospheric pressure.

OK guys, I replaced Evap. Charcoal Filter Canister ~$180.00 and the Evap. Vent Solenoid Valve ~$23.00, and it fixed the problem.

Yea, not even one click at the gas pump. However, the dang tank now took 17 gallon from empty, I'm not exaggerating. Before, the most it would take from empty was ~13 gallons - weird .

Cool and I’d stop filling the tank when it first clicks off…it’s when you overfill the tank you start having Canister issues.

Duly noted, that's what I did. No more trying to wring out that last drop .
