NYS has numerous laws which are not car enthusiasts friendly. Needless to say, they require both front and rear plates. That said, I've never had an issue with law enforcement for NOT having a front plate.
If you're riding dirty in any way, you should cross your t's... For me, I'll take the risk accept my fix-it-ticket if it comes to that.
Add CT to the list of states that require a front plate. Since my '62 Corvette is all original I have always used a front plate. I didn't care to remove the somewhat bulky plate mounting brackets that also contain small chrome bumpers. I've owned that car since 1969 and plan on keeping it as-is.
On the other hand, over the years I've owned 10 other Corvettes of all generation from C2 to C7 and have NEVER used a front plate and luckily never been ticketed.
Because of the front plate requirement in CT when purchasing a new vehicle the dealership always includes the optional front plate equipment. I recently ordered a new C8 and made the dealer remove the item from my order (a savings of $40!)
There is a link to the news release on the other front plate thread in C7 General.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida drivers may not need a front license plate after all.
After receiving feedback from constituents and legislators, Senator Joe Gruters announced he plans to remove the requirement for Florida drivers to have a front license plate from the "Lilly Glaubach Act."
Gruters introduced SB 92 in honor of 13-year-old Lilly Glaubach, who lost her life in a hit-and-run accident while biking home from school in Sarasota in August 2022. The bill aims to tackle the rising number of hit-and-run incidents in Florida, which reportedly accounted for one out of every four crashes in 2023.
Gruters said that the primary goal of the bill is to enhance accountability for vehicle repair shops and prevent individuals from obtaining repairs under false pretenses, as a way to reduce hit-and-run incidents.
Florida is trying to sneak thru a new law to take affect Jan 2026 requiring front tags.
It is an add on to a repair bill for body shops and if no one reads the entire bill they would have no idea what they are trying to sneak thru.
Running around Jacksonville yesterday, I noticed most newer cars have no mounts, so each driver must not only purchase a second tag but a factory mount as well.
It seems to me it would kill airflow on our Z's. Who out there has tags on their vettes on the front ?
.
For the C7 GM offered two solutions for the front license plate: the Aeroplate holder that put the plate in the center of the grille and was easily removable if the owner decided to track the car, and the other option was a plate holder that fastened to the front fascia. Here is a picture I took of the AeroPlate Holder while looking at C7s during the 2013 Corvettes at Carlilse meet.
I have always thought the AeroPlate Holder was the best looking of the plate holders be they OEM or Aftermarket.
CA requires front plates. I do not have on on my Z06. I'll take my chances. I do have both factory plate mounts in my trunk if I ever want to mount it.
