Yes, the ZR1 is faster :)
I pulled this together in response to a thread over on in the Z06 section but thought it was worth posting on its own here. This is a good examples of just how much faster the ZR1 is than the Z06.
Same place on track at VIR, same driver, ZR1 vs Z06.

I want to address this comment that my post was designed to "stick my thumb in the eye of Z06 owners." I am a Z06 owner and have owned one since December 2014. In fact, I have been a staunch defender of the Z06 when the "Internet wisdom" was that it was a terrible track car because it was too heavy, was supercharged, couldn't be tracked in hot weather. I remember the gnashing of teeth about what a failure it was when it first came out because it lost a roll race to a Viper.
I spent much of the last 3+ years tracking the heck out of two Z06s and posting real data and my personal experiences to dispel the hysteria surrounding the Z06. I've run nearly 75 days and almost 150 hours on track in those two cars. In fact, I am a much better driver today than 3 years ago because I had something to prove about the capability of the C7 Z06.
Now here we are, the first couple ZR1 have hit the street and history is repeating itself. This forum is full of people complaining that it should've been faster in the 1/4 mile, or should've been faster in the mile. Neither of those are what this car was designed to do, this is designed to be the king of the hill on the road course and I wanted to post some very clear data of just how superior it is for the folks that don't think it's much of a difference. I have close to 4000 laps around VIR in a C7 Z06 and hitting 170 on the front straight is RIDICULOUS!
I am not saying that the folks hating on it are doing so because they wish they could buy a ZR1 but I'm also going to admit that I tried really hard to talk myself out of getting one as well (and the same was true of the Z06). In the end though, I wanted a chance to see what the ultimate front-engine Corvette, and possible the ultimate manual transmission Corvette can do.
I am truly blessed to have the means at this point in my life to take a $70K hit for that opportunity and I am going to take everyone along for that ride as best I can. I hope you all enjoy it.

It should be faster. It's the latest and greatest iteration with more power and downforce. Although that's a skewed way of measuring. Here's something a bit more on par with reality.

I don't understand your point. Those are the two laps I pulled the screen shots from. Same tires too.

The screenshots are misleading. 16mph 10mph etc at same points on the course don't tell the whole story.
if that were the case, would the ZR1 not be far quicker than the 2.5 seconds it actually is?
as your pics showed it was such a significant difference it forced me to go back and actually read what the difference was. And i was surprised at how little it was given the extra power and downforce. Hence my original post.

Do you have any idea what a difference 2.5s is on VIR Grand Course at the limit? I chose those snippets because they were very clear examples of how much faster the car is. I suspect that if we had VIR Full times the difference would be even more pronounced.

Both cars are awesome, I hate when people on this site have to justify stuff....

no i don't. My question for you is do you consider the Z06 to be significantly faster around that course than say a GS Z07? Becaise the consensus as every editor and forum member has voice over and over that the GS was 99% a Z06 around any course. Curious as to your take on that?

Yes the ZR1 is faster as it should be but not by much!

There are some participants in this thread that clearly have little to no actual on-track experience.
It's ridiculously faster. Whole seconds faster on VIR is saying a lot. And getting those seconds is not inexpensive.
Stop with the envy. It's quite sad, really.

ok. My point is. Everyone cannot be taken seriously when they brag about the GS being oh so close to the Z06 yet it's a full 3 seconds slower on that same course when the Z06 is only 2.5 seconds slower than the ZR. Understand what I'm trying to articulate?
I'd love for you to take a GS around the course and compare it to your Z06 laps. Then again, your ZR1 will be here and you'll be able to compare the actual lap times for all of us to see. Looking forward to the comparison.
ps. I envy you for being able to live the dream. I have another 13yrs till retirement. Hoping to be able to make up for lost time at all of these tracks.

The ZR1 haters (mostly comprised of Z06 owners who are likely upside down in their cars) are comical.
They bash the wing, the fact that it wasn't 50 MPH faster in various straight line pulls, and they bash the price tag. They boast of all the things they could do or have done to their cars to make them faster than the ZR1 for thousands less.
They can not or will not accept the fact that out of the box, the car is significantly faster and more capable on a road course than a Z06, and it is doubtful any have even had their cars on a road course for other than parade laps or the annual NCM events as permanent novice drivers.
2.5 seconds at the limit is huge on a road course, especially VIR Grand.
When very fast and capable drivers show them they are wrong, they resort to posturing and projection.
Fragile egos here...

What I stated has zero to do with envy, it's a fact he paid a lot more money for those few seconds over a Z06 and good for him if that's his choice. Maybe he was just posting that the ZR1 is faster, but that is not how it came off to me, it came off as a thumbing his nose at Z06 owners, but maybe I just took it wrong. I apologize if that is the case.
We are all Corvette owners and we really need to get over this envy/jealously crap and quit accusing people of it.
