This is the Gauntlet....keep in mind, this is 133 miles. The Helenring is almost 40 miles...so it's plenty of drive time. You can see the Helenring on the Gauntlet map.

We who ride bikes, die by the thousands each year because of reckless, inattentive car drivers. These roads have beautiful scenery, slow down and enjoy it, just like those of us who ride bikes do.

It’s about both sides being curtious. Slower vehicles, including motorcycles, should properly use turnouts. It doesn’t matter if you are going 5 under the speed limit, or 20 over, if someone wants to go faster, let them. It is not your position to play traffic control. It’s really that easy.
At the same time, if someone is going slow in front of you and not using turnouts, it does not give you the okay to put anyone’s life in danger, your’s, their’s or the on coming traffic. That is just plain stupid.

Warning to all....
Guys, this poor attitude is totally not necessary. Why can't you people talk to one another with more respect?

Now that you have done the Dragon, put Needles Highway in the Black Hills of South Dakota on your to do list.

The Dragon is kind of a joke. Unless you go mid-week, you will be stuck behind rolling barricades of Harleys. Some are nice enough to pull over and or allow you to pass, but most most are not. There is almost no possibility of passing during the 11 miles on a bike, let alone a car, so if you get stuck behind these a-holes, it a miserable, loud, and absurdly slow experience as they sputter and tip-toe along.
Cherohala is a much, much better road.

I only go to the Dragon mid week, and usually early morning, weather I am in my Corvette or on my Harley. I can also promise you I have never held up a Corvette, or any other car. In 10 years, I think I have had to pull over to let a car by 7 or 8 times.
I have passed many Harley's on the Dragon, a few Sport bikes, two Corvettes and three mustangs over the years and many other makes of cars. I push it hard enough my floor boards are leaving sparks on the pavement, and my bike has a full 1/3 more HP and Torque than stock. 706 pounds with 138.5 HP and 140 torque.

The question is how fast do YOU want to go in relation to the traffic ahead of you? For every unskilled motorcycle rider on a road like this there is an equal counterpart in a car who thinks the is Parnelli Granatelli. It's a no win situation. If your inability to exceed the speed limit on a public road is creating a situation where you can't enjoy the drive, that's not the problem of anybody but the driver/rider.

There are some car drivers that run the road way to fast and cross the double yellow, I see it all the time.
