Default Randy Pobst is tearing up Willow Springs!

I have nothing other then this posted pic by Randy, and additional confirmation from a friend that is out there, who says the car is flying, but it looks like he's having some fun with the ZR1!

MT is testing it, so official results won't be available for a little while...

If that 120.5 is the time, WOW! It's 100 Degrees as well, car is doing just fine.

Here's a rather raw vid down the straight...

In for JG2's critique of his driving.

Didn't he set the record out there in the 720s or something over the winter? Or maybe it was the fastest MT car tested there or something.

The 'current' could still be counting. It's not a fixed value.

If he is running at Willow, even if it was currently running and set to be closely matched to the prior shown lap times, he'd be within 6 seconds of the start/finish. On that track, when that car is within 6 seconds of the end it's going to be going WAYYYY faster than 69mph.

Yeah. My guess is he just finished a hot lap, was cooling down on an in lap, and clicked a pic. 69mph in 5th gear isn't a hot lap.

I like that display. Actual numbers on values and bars for quick look PLUS tire pressures- I'm jealous.

Yes, apparently they decided to attack and set the Willow Springs track record with the new C7 ZR1. Be on the look out for the video. It may appear as an episode of MotorTrends 'Ignition' or 'Head to Head'. Hopefully, we will know sooner than later if they set a new track record with the new C7 ZR1

In the mean time, enjoy the pics....

Thanks for posting. That's a track I know very well, so it will be interesting to me to have a bogey time for when I take my ZR1 there later.

Also, anyone else notice in the pics that Randy drove so fast the paint blew off his wheels turning them silver

Looks like they have two C7 ZR1's (blade silver and wgg/shadow grey). Let's hope they are setting laps in manual and auto cars for Ignition. I'd guess that the ZL1 is there to face off against (and destroy) the Widebody Hellcat in the background for an episode of Head 2 Head.

Just for comparison’s sake, they tested the GT2RS at Willow about a month ago and didn’t release the time...the results should be interesting.

I've raced on that track a ton. A 1:20 on slicks in cool weather is absolutely hauling. To do so on those tires in 100 degree heat is a testament to one very skilled race car driver and one very fast car!

I was waiting on someone to point out this. A bit of perspective though... can any tire hold up to +3500lb car being driven that fast in 100 degree desert temps?

Test day up at Laguna Seca on Thursday. Unlimited Sound. ZR1 is going to need that. I got a email from a Motor Trend journalist letting me know there was going to be some form of test (GT2RS, ZR1, 720S, Performante, FordGT, Pista, etc.)coming soon to LS. Asked If I was going to join. I have to keep my mouth shut to the forum but I will go visit the guys and report back if Thursday is the day and which cars attended. Perfect conditions for the test right now. Cool morning air and perfect track temp mid morning.

Ron Kiino formally of Motor Trend and now working on the marketing team of the ZL1 1LE is in a couple photos here. They have factory help here at these tests to make sure the cars are set up right. Good news after the BDC test where the ZO6 puked out.

Yes the new Goodyear 3R’s from the 1-LE would.

It seems to be a trend!

Eagle F1 Supercar 3Rs feature an exclusive compound to the 1LE

But then there are those contracts! Excellent point though with a heavier car. Think minus 20 seconds!
