R&T Performance Car of the Year
#21
The shock here for me is how much slower the Pista is than it's closest competitors.
It's also interesting to step back and see the pace delta between a super car and a really fast sedan. The M5 is 10 seconds slower than the Senna over a single lap on ~1:30 averaged out lap times. That's a lifetime.

And your comment about the Senna? Did you even read that before hitting submit? You just reinforce the point we are making. The Senna is a $1mil+ PERFORMANCE CAR specifically designed to maximize PERFORMANCE and absolutely nothing else. Why should the Senna be excluded from a performance car comparison?

This sums it up:
Ok...I'm "Old School". I have owned a '67 C2/427/390 Horse 4 Speed Convertible WITH AIR...an '88 Lingenfelter 383/450 Horse Convertible...and now drive as my "Retirement" toy a'94 Polo Green convertible/LT1/300 Horse/Auto and an active member of the Corvette Club of Marion County, Fl (Ocala). In my youth I had a '70 Hemi Challenger 4 Speed and a '70 SS 454 LS-6 4 speed with 4.11's. So I get it and appreciate speed and "GRUNT".
But when I read the above summary sheet and see near the bottom of column 1..."8th gear.....0.65:1....175 MPH @3450 RPM"...my jaw drops. This Beast "Cruises" at 175 MPH at 3450 RPM !!! The C7 Corvette ZR-1 is "Loafing" at 175 MPH turning 3450 RPM. DAMN IT !!!...$141,485 as tested.
We had our big annual ALL CORVETTE show this past Saturday here in Ocala. We ended up with 207 Corvettes from 15 different Corvette Clubs around Florida...all iterations...C1 thru C7...and trust me...we had some seriously nice cars. I was 2nd in charge of parking. We cut the "Day of Registration" off at 10 AM. At 10 AM I noticed one loan car approaching the Registration Tent...suspicious Bulge in the hood....the tell tale Wing/Spoiler. I thought "Could it be?" The driver cleared registration and eased up to me. "Is that what I think it is?" I asked. The young man behind the wheel replied, "Yep...it is what you think it is!" A brand new 2019 ZR-1 Corvette had just entered our show. I got on my radio and announced over the air to the main tent "Gentlemen...we have one last entry...a 2019 C7 ZR1 headed to space #9 on the front row." As I watched the ZR-1 drive thru the midst of the other 206 Corvettes headed to the front...it reminded me of Moses standing in front of the Tormented Sea spreading a path for the Israelites to pass escaping Pharaohs Army of chariots. The first several rows of various Corvettes were rearranged quickly and the new orange ZR1 took its rightful place...right in the center of the show. This is the first ZR-1 that I had seen in person which is the case with 99% of the other several hundred owners and spectators of the show...including our sponsoring Chevy Dealer.
So how do we top that? Maybe when the first C8's begin to show up a year from now...but for now....this car is at the top of the hill !!!

Well if the Corvette had any slight advantage on its homefield 2 mile NCM track, then the GT2 really had a stacked deck on the 12.9 mile Nurburgring. Porsche practically “lives” there.

The best quote in the whole article was when the driver, Hildebrand said, "There are two cars in this group that if I’m sitting at a stoplight, I can just reasonably say, 'The hell with anything that pulls up next to me, and those cars are the Senna and the ZR1. They are animals on the street."
How can that not get you pumped about the state of the American automobile?

What's actually funny is that someone on Corvette Forum, or any American car enthusiast for that matter, would be anything other than ecstatic about our working man's super car winning this award.

LMAO Hater Alert! “Corvette Test Track”, give me a break. And for the record, yes I 100% do think the ZR1 is superior to the GT2RS. The Porsche is a one trick pony, my ZR1 will keep up or beat it on any track then I can take the wife to dinner the same night without any complaints.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but at $1M and totally focused as a track car, EVERY track better be THE track for the Senna.

Its going to be every single track if the GT2 RS is tested on its actual factory equipped tire and not the tire switcheroo Porsches been playing as of late.

I think the A-8 may seriously need a software update. Maybe something that responds to the throttle position and the performance mode that has been selected. Maybe its not so much the transmission and more about what and when it is doing it regarding gear selections. That would be a software thing...

Despite all of the naysayers (I won't name names lol), those of us that purchased the car (particularly early), have been rewarded just as we expected we would be. Does it have flaws? Of course it does. But, at this price point, we expect it to. Having said that, it's a magnificent engineering achievement. No other manufacturer has this recipe, nor would take on the challenge of building a comparable car in the same price range. Period. I can only hope the car is limited to a 2019 model year run. If so, it will remain in the family, and be parked next to the C8 ZR1 (or whatever it's going to be called). Chevy engineer's if you're reading this...here's a tip of the cap from a very satisfied owner!

Imagine how many would have said " Road and Track sucks and always did" lol Congrats to the ZR1 but damn, look at some of the specs of the others, 1/4 mile mph etc....wow! those are pulling hard

Road & Track and all the others should add a rating category to their reviews,,,"Bang for the Buck" !!

My interest in cars started as a teen buying junked mid 50’s Chevys and transplanting crudely modded small blocks in them. They werent at all fast by todays standards, handled like crap, but they still were a lot of fun.. To think that I now have a Corvette that is seriously being compared to the best that Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren can offer, is amazing to me. Hat’s off to Tadge & Company.. and I’m still having fun driving Chevy product.
