You assuming they are two very different product marketing strategies. That may not be the case.
No one knows for certain (at least in a public forum) if the ME is going to be a unique, exclusive type of vehicle to accompany the Corvette / Chevy brand or if it will attempt to do something different than that and become more mainstream.

I've been careful to use the disclaimer of "if a mid-engine Corvette is meant to supplant the Corvette in its current form".

I don't think GM is crying wolf here.
There is just WAAAAY too many hints being dropped for it to be a hoax.
I expect it will be branded a Caddy (and a hybrid too) first though...

Those all look like the looser ERL, and the one in the lower right hand corner looks like an ERL that was placed to close to the fireplace.
The ERL didn't sell(for many, many reasons, including styling), so I doubt any of those would fly.

That loser, ELR-looking car that looks like it was too close to the fireplace, is the future. Cadillac might not make anything like it. You might not like it. Maybe nobody on this Forum likes it. But there will be several cars in the not too distant future that will have similar characteristics. And there will be many people that buy them and they will love them.

Easy to modify a grill if it reminds you of the ELR. Some electric hybrids need to be marketed as primarily a normal gas engine with electric torque boost/backup. I think a Cadillac should be marketed that way because of its more conservative customer base. Let the customers use what they want and drive how they want.

To me, it is interesting that the writer titles the article, "GM Approves C8 Mid-Engine Corvette for 2019!" but in the quote that is the basis for the article, nothing is said at all about this being the 8th Gen Corvette. “The mid engine was signed off on last week, a 2019..." While I certainly enjoy the speculation that continues to swirl around the mid engine and whatever the 8th Gen Corvette will be, I do not see any real new information in this article. I've been a proponent of a 2019 MY ME followed by a 2021 MY 8th Gen since early 2016. The 2019 ME is going to be a very limited production vehicle...probably 1000 units or less. Why would GM put all of their eggs in a basket like that? I think they're smarter than that...and chuckling at the speculation. Sure, I could be wrong about it all, but like I always say, time will tell.

If they skimp in quality, performance, or design, it will be a big fat mid-engine belly flop. It would die fast. I don't like seeing something done half-youknowwhat. There is a way to keep current Corvette customers happy and reach out to others. If they're smart, they will do it right.

It's not going to be a Cadillac and it absolutely is using the C7 modular frame structure, in front of and behind the stir friction welded castings. They've essentially created an aluminum monocoque with friction welded front and rear members. FACTS.

Lamborghini and Ferrari charge more because they can. Not because they have to. Most of those customers don't mind either. It makes them feel better to spend more. They love telling people that their Murcielago costs $2,000 for an oil change. It doesn't cost that much.
Some wealthy people actually like spending more. It makes them feel like they are getting more. They are getting more, but not that much more. It's why some women spend $5,000 or more on a purse. That's actually why they buy it, because it's expensive. If it wasn't that expensive, they wouldn't buy it. It's funny. But I'm glad there are so many wealthy people in this world so we can experience the nicest things.
Let's hope we add a mid-engine Corvette to that list of the nicest things. It can be built, sold, and maintained at a more reasonable cost than the Italian exotics. But maybe the top of the line mid-engine Corvette should be more expensive. The owners would be proud to spend so much.

I really do not want to see the engine. All the renderings hint of the same basic style, short chopped sloping front and a high long rear. Then there are all those cooling inlets; we have openings in the front with large exit louvres a foot or two behind the bumper, side inlets that feed cooling air to the radiator (like the more air inlet holes the better). Hopefully the design depart can think outside this mid-engine model concept and come up with something different. Check post #16, this is what I was referring to; hope this is not the final design.

One thing has become abundantly clear from all the posts on this entire "C8 Corvette" topic: No one actually "knows" anything. We all have our pet theories and desires, and we all extrapolate what little dribs and drabs of information escape from GM into whatever we personally want them to mean.
So let's just relax, sit back, and wait to see what develops. I suppose there is an underlying human need for some folks to present themselves as being "in on the secret" when they don't actually know any more than you or I do. Remember, we've been chasing the Mid-Engine Corvette holy grail for many, many decades now - and it was always "just around the corner", and on the cover of every auto magazine under the usual huge banner, "Is this the next Corvette?" . . . and the answer has always been a resounding "No".
I'll wait and see. My 1962 and C7 will get me through just fine.

The world has changed, again, i.e. the differences between a racing platform and a street legal car meeting local/national regulations and requirements are now astronomical or hysterically comical. Yes, the Camaro is a poor man's Corvette, and yes, lawsuits pending against both the C6Z and C7Z (see above) by people mistaking their street car for a racing car.
An ME to compete vs. the Ford GT? The latter was getting its *** kicked by the 911 RSR at LeMans on the weekend!

Its hard to see so many people doubting the mid-engine. We have seen pictures for the car. Why is everyone so skeptical still? True, we don't know what it looks like yet, but that is a ton of money to build a one concept you know will never use. Plus, its not like they are keeping the ZR1 hidden from us so do people really think the mid-engine is just hype?

It is cool to see the engine cover, but it is been done to death the last 20 years.

other than the lack of top (need to fab one) the car looks cool, is light, has plenty of torq, and gets with the program
I'm thinking of swapping in one of my many LS 4.8 turbo motors and raise the bar a bit on the old SB 350.
Many of the "greats" succumbed to GM wanting a flagship c3 when the old gal had it's hp emasculated to the point it was a bit too slow for most
all about power to weight and power was slagging off and weight savings didn't keep pace with hp loss.
another little stormer was the saturn sky with a v8 like to have seen that platform develop a bit more
