While watching the videos, I tried to see if I could hear the engine....sadly, no.

This is no HALO vette, folks. You are looking at the new base model C8. This is not the high(er) performance C8 variant.
Wave bye-bye to the front engine corvette. It dies with the C7....as I stated months ago...

Those tail lights do look round, Thank God! GM realized that every modern day super car like Ferrari, Bugatti, Ford GT have round lights. Bring back the 60yr tradition that was thrown away in 2014.

There are actually 3 others in the background behind the yellow one.

I no this is not the final form and it will look substantially different than these photos, but I think I just realized I'm not a fan of the mid-engine look in general. Even more so that wheelbase is just crazy long...Idk..we'll see I may opt for the zr-1 if it really is the last hoorah for front engine vettes.

No way they drop the front engine. The ME is going to be a completely different model. California--Corvette / 488--Zora.

looks like round tail lights to me too! I don't know about that quad exhaust on the tail ends instead of in the middle. But then again, they may change that!

I think it looks great. I still love my 2017.
Regardless the projected $130K price is so far above my Johnny Lunchpail pay grade it's a little ridiculous.
You know what else is ridiculous? The Corvette Forum dick measuring contest which is 99% on paper and seems to have little connection to real world driving. Because I can hardly push the limits of my stock, non-Z06, non-Grand Sport Z51 Stingray on public roads. When I'm shooting gaps on the highway like I did as a kid in my dimply Japanese eco-boxes, it's like driving a CanAm racing car in a field of Hyundais. I rarely do that, in the C7 the car is so stupid fast it's dangerous.
The C6 was the fastest car I had ever driven, the C7 amps that up to some new insane level.
Frankly the thought of Corvette cowboys getting their hands on a 700+ hp mid-engined version is frightening. But not that frightening, as a group there is probably no safer group of high performance car owners/drivers than Corvette owners, and that's reflected in the car's amazingly reasonable insurance premiums. They don't get crashed very often. Much lower rates for example than I pay for my Toyota Prius.

Active handling tends to allow daily driving these supercars on the street. I can't wait for the rear mid engine corvette to hit the streets.
After three new front mid engine corvettes I'm ready for the new driving experience, the new ownership experience of the model being shown here in early development form.
Sales will skyrocket and that's what GM is in business for.
Yes I dig my present corvette yet for me to tear open my wallet again I want this new and different design we have been rumored to be getting for the past 40 odd years ..
Should be fun and should allow the 7th gen camaro 2 plus 2 to finally succeed without its recent retro design theme....
Watch as the mustang evolves into more of an Aston Martin like shape...camaro needs to evolve into a more sleek design theme to attract new buyers.
For camaro and corvette to not compete the differentiation of a rear mid engine corvette makes a lot of sense ..
No facts on my part...just supposition but the. That's all any of us are doing....which is half the fun...
For those picking up or planning to pick up a low mileage c7 z06 as the new rear mid engine c8 releases ....it'll be like shooting ducks in a barrel ....(or whatever that saying was)

2016 C5 of the Year Finalist
I'm confident that I'll be happy with whatever Corvette's designers come up with... exciting times for sure!

This thread reminds me of my reaction to the Jalopnik leaked c7 drawings. (Where is Jalopnik for c8?) I hated the design and said it looked like an old Celica. Then I saw it in person. And bought one. If the c8 looks anything like the Transformers prototype, I would be all in. I also think the new Ford GT looks amazing, and would be very happy if it stole some design cues from that for a fraction of the price. I am optimistic about how this car will look and perform. I am pessimistic that I could actually pay for one. But as someone said, there should be great deals on c7 z06's then.

Does Chevy want to sell any ZR1s? Why are they parading this car around with the ZR1 supposedly right around the corner? Why would anyone buy the ZR1 with this mid-engine looking damn near production ready itself...
Granted, this rear engine vette may be years away yet, but with Chevy parading this thing around so much, looking just as production ready as the ZR1 mules we are seeing, it seems this car is right around the corner too.
They must intend on keeping ZR1 production numbers very low...

The lower rear treatment, including the exhaust location, has some similarities to the CTS V. Also, the exhaust tips and mirrors are different from the ones on the earlier spy shots.
