Hagerty Take

For the nay sayers here did any of you read this caption: Painted with drops of leaked information from a GM Deep Throat, our rendering of the forthcoming C8 is no mere guess. In Ferrari style, the mid-mounted V-8 will be proudly visible under the rear hatch. Expect the genuine article to break cover at the Detroit auto show in January 2019.
I can actually see this being the car with alot of C7 in it since the base price is being stated at $70k.

Stew24, totally agree with you that it will not be a C7 evolution, but a ME “completely and radically different appearing car” (and not just in its front to rear/cabin placement proportions). In visual regard, I find the Haggerty article not useful, in fact, way off the track. However, as to the written comments/analysis/mechanical details by Don Sherman, he has a history of good friends within the industry and often being totally correct.
I was standing at last year’s BASH, coincidentally between a SR, a GS and a Z06. Talking with Kirk Bennion, as he and I were the only ones there at that moment, and I pointed to the three cars around us, and said, “I/we all love it that you went so bold on the C7. They all look terrific. I hope that the next generation Corvette — and I am not asking for a response from you of any kind, is similarly bold.” He smiled his wry smile, and said, “not to worry, at some point in time there will be a next generation Corvette, and it will be bold.”
I am not worried that we are getting a ME with a C7 front-nor-rear. As much as I love the looks of my C7 Z06, I too am ready for a major change.

I would also expect that some of the C7 styling will make it into the C8, just like some of the C5 made it into the C6.
The C8 has to be instantly recognizable as a Corvette. That means a level of continuity in styling. In addition, the C7 styling is pretty popular. I do not think GM is ready to completely throw it away and do something as radical as a McLaren 720, for instance. The spy photos show a green house that looks a lot like the C7's. I guess we will all see in about one year.

The side air inlet for engine cooling is ugly (hudge). In the late fifties they designed a rear engine air cooled car and had the cooling inlets blended into the design. The 1965 thru 1969 models had the inlets behind the rear window virtually not even noticeable. Glad I purchased a 2017 Stingray Convertible. The forecast price of $70,000 (no options) is to too expensive.

Hagerty (and others) could take a few lessons from our very own firstvettsoon:

Not liking this one....while I love the C7 and don't want the C8 to look like a C7.

Nearly every render we have seen looks too much like a C7.
It would be a real disappointment if it turns out to actually be that way when it drops.

The ME Vette should be revolutionary, NOT evolutionary.

picture shows front grille similar to c7, rear end big change from c7-ehaust moved to corners from middle, otherwise exactly the same, side engine intakes indicate design like fake stick on styrofoam that gm is parading on its latest spy shots. is hagarty in the gm propaganda mill? hagarty's specialty is the past; their prediction is out to lunch. they won't do anything to upset gm.

The thing that's funny (and sad) about this render is that we KNOW what the rear fascia, wheels, exhaust tips, front fascia, side view mirror location look like already and Hagerty chose to ignore them.

I guess I am crazy party of one, because I love how that looks.
