I guess I won't be taking my cross country Route 66 trip with my wife in a C8.

Nahh, you'll buy a front engine C8 to fit your golf clubs.
GM is setting up the staggered pattern. Mid engine comes out and sells along full line of current gen front engines, then after 2yrs of mid engine, new front engine revision comes out, etc.
Front engine cars AND mid engine cars will both exist...you'll see. Front engine Corvette isn't dead.

Thanks K.I.T.T. I have heard that before, including that the C8 FE will be a nice C7.5 refresh — such as new fascia, headlights/lightlights and some interior upgrades and two safety upgrades (blind spot and AEB) — with at least BSP not being able to fit within the C7’s rear quarters.
If that is correct, that will nicely offer lots of choices!
Exciting times ahead for all!

Trunk in front that can hold small bags
Room behind the seats for bags or golf clubs
Trunk in the back that could fit bags or golf clubs
I really wouldn’t be so worried about it yet.

Doug Fehan pretty much said it loud and clear at the bash last month.
1. He confirmed they were working on C8R to get it done
2. He also laid out praise to Kai and others for altering the plant to build 2 ongoing separate models (not trims) side by side.
He even joked that he had Harlen sweating next to him, so he gave him the mic.

Harlan did a deft job of moving the subject on, by immediately responding, “yes, we will race the C8.R after we are done racing the C7.R,” then immmediately skipped to some new topic

I was there and I heard Fehan say that job 1 was getting the C8.R ready for the Jan. 2019 Rolex 24, and job 2 was supporting the last races for the C7.R in 2018. I thought Harlan Charles was going to faint, LOL ! The ME is coming next year, and we will see it at Daytona in late January, if not before.

Ford GT, BMW M8, Supra (Gazoo Racing)...this is the lead out method at this stage...race car first, then road car...they've all done it the same way. I expect we'll see C8R for sure at the Roar (if not earlier) and maybe an early to mid 2019 auto show release of the mid engine car, with late 2019 deliveries.

I suspect that we will see the 2020 mid engine introduction at the Jan 2019 Detroit auto show and to start in production on the normal schedule of June(2019) just before the plant goes on it's summer vacation shutdown during the first two weeks in July(2019).
This what is on the museum's webpage. "**Customers participating in the NCM Experience after June 16, 2017 will not receive a tour of the Corvette Assembly Plant on the day of their Experience. However, when tours resume (approximately January 2019), we will provide a complimentary tour. Please subscribe to NCM eNews for future updates.**"
While not an absolute guarantee that the plant will be open for visitors in Jan, 2019, it does indicate that it might, which means that the mid-engine will have been shown, in all it's glory, to the public at the Detroit auto show. After the reveal in Jan 2019, no reason to wait almost a year, to actually go into production.

That is to long a run for the MY 2019's(January 2018 to 'late' 2019). That is nearly two years of production of one model year of car.

Wlll there be room for Golf Clubs in the C8?
My current C7 is a great car for travelling with a set of clubs. If there is no room for a set of clubs or a couple lawn chairs then the versatility of the C8 will be greatly diminished.

The answer to that question is currently unknown. Bob Lutz said years ago, that GM had the ME luggage problem solved, but whether that included one or two sets of golf clubs (or similar luggage capacity) will only be answered at the reveal (barring an insider leak).

Lawn chairs?
Do they fit in the c7? How about a Porsche? A Ferrari, Lamborghini or mclaren?
Even though I don’t golf I think engineers will have a solution for a set of golf clubs for those that do.
Not sure about lawn chairs though...
I’d imagine with the targa top on the roof...you could fit a lawn chair in the trunk...

I really hope they don't compromise this rig just to fit golf bags in it.

You will be giving up golf! And driving and smiling. And also just going out to your garage for extra trips just to look at it.
