I'm not sure but the race cars all seem to have around 500hp, but, the RSR has 8,700 RPM. I'm guessing That is an advantage in a light higher speed race car.
Interesting it will be to see if Corvette is still pulling stumps as much with the C8!

there is no way in hell that a boxter (cayman..whatever you want to call it) will compete with a fast Vette...(unless your talking about the buyers that are buying on payments).... from what the news seems to be... I see the buyers as 911 turbo owners that will want something cheaper... and same aspects..

but my god..if the Vette is on any, I mean any comparison to a boxter (cayman)... it already has lost its advantage...and will fail..

The Cayman S is a great handling car. That doesn't mean the Corvette isn't great handling, and faster. Two different solutions, one doesn't have to be poor for the other to be good.

From Car and Driver:

We have to admit that the atavists who griped about the sound of the new turbo four-cylinder flatties in the 718 have a point. That old steel-cut song of the six has been replaced by a somewhat boomy and uninspiring tune that just doesn’t flutter the heart. Fix this, Porsche, because the rest of the 718 is so magnificent. Really, for those who despair that they will never own a Ferrari or a McLaren, the 718 is an attainable and highly worthy alternative. The grip and chassis dynamics are stunning, our hands and feet and fanny no better connected to any car at this event than to the Cayman.

The boosted four-cylinder is an improvement over the flat-six by every objective measure, its extra 25 horsepower and 37 pound-feet of torque pushing the Cayman S to 144.1 mph down the front straight, 8.7 mph faster than the 2014 model. We logged the fast lap using the paddle shifters with stability control turned off, but came within 0.2 second of that time in Sport Plus with the seven-speed dual-clutch in full auto mode, the computers doing a fine job serving the right ratios at the right moment and the stability control only there to finesse the rear end out of an overcooked corner. The 718’s electronics put the GT-R’s aging circuitry into sharp relief. See, Nissan, this is why you can’t leave performance cars in the marketplace for nine years. After struggling with weather and heat for several days, the Cayman’s best lap came on the final morning, when we managed to shave it down to 2:58.3. But rest assured, no other car’s driver had more fun out there.

And why wouldn't you drive a Boxster? It is a LOT of fun and everything in the Car and Driver review is spot on.

I never cared for the earlier generations much, but the last one looks pretty decent. The flattened the back window, and shrunk the oversized taillights.

911 is the competitor performancewise...

pricewise yes the Boxster cayman are competitors even if they are slower and still priced much higher.

cute cars but not in the same league as the corvette ...even the one we haven’t seen yet

Current C7 GS keeps up with a 2016 GT3RS and McLaren 570S on the track. This new car is going to create some butthurt in the car community, and I welcome it.

BTW I have a 981 Cayman S and it rocks, but I can't wait for a ME Corvette with a DCT.

I also have a 981 Boxster S and it also rocks. And like you, I am really looking forward to a DCT ME corvette.

I paid 51,700 for my CPO 2017 Boxster. I went from a 16 Z06 Vert to an Audi s5 cabriolet to this. I wanted all seasons for the Z06 and they never appeared. The Audi seemed like a logical choice for all year fun. It was a snoozer. The 4cyl Boxster ? Had I listened to all the writing about the 4cyl cars, I would still be searching for something decent in that price range . Instead I drove the Boxster S and the base car. I ended up with a base Boxster and couldn't be happier. Having owned 7 Corvettes (2 C7's), I can tell you this is a fantastic drivers car. If only GM could make a PDK. Moral of the story - don't listen to other people or make assumptions based on some pre conceived notion .

It just does not come across as a mans car. We test drove one for my wife but it just did not justify the price over a BMW 2-Series which is the car she bought. It also had the dct which was awful compared to the BMW auto. My wife doesn't drive a manual.

Please don't take this as confrontational. What, to you, is a mans car?

Look at the video of the C8 car doing acceleration runs in camo, and then run some boxster/Cayman videos.
Come to your own conclusion.

One of the two videos,
upon sound and size,is simply perceived as more masculine in this continent .

Plain and simple.

Most American cars with a v8. Most cars that are Miata-like are not to me.

The GTS 718s are pure driver cars. Nothing womanly about that.
