If I'm not mistaken, didn't GM basically build the Fiero to be the cheapest car possible which was using cheap parts to save on costs? And how any one can compare a 1980's Fiero to today's cars kind of boggles my mind.. GM was very conservative back then... we didn't have 650-755 HP Vettes running around back then not to mention the technology and engineering that goes into these new Corvettes today!
As I said in a few statements, yes I'm sure the first year mid engine C8 will have its issues. The first year new cars usually do. By the 2nd or 3rd year GM will have any minor or not so minor issues ironed out.
Like the Z06 with its over heating issues on the race track, by 2017 I believe they fixed that problem I've been told. I've red the C8 may have a six cylinder engine kicking out over 600 HP.
Like the Lambo's that to this very day have been known to catch fire in the engine bay, it might make sense to go with a smaller engine that won't over heat and catch fire. Only time will tell.

EDIT: Something to be said comparing ‘80s Corvettes to............

In the early to mid 90's you could say the Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro's challenged the C4 Corvette... hell the new style Firebirds and Camaro's back then to the SAME look from 1984-1996 Corvette, about $25-35 thousand dollar difference in price. The Camaro's and Firebirds were really closing in on the Corvettes. 275-285, 310 HP F Body cars to the 300 HP way more expensive Corvettes. Then by the early 2000's they were pushing over 330HP.
No one is compraring an “80’s Fiero” to today’s cars. And yes initially it was made on the Cheap as a commuter car targeting female drivers. BUT, you are ignoring the fact that it was becoming a serious issue within GM that the CHEVROLET Corvette AT THAT TIME was about to be challenged by the PONTIAC Division with a MID-ENGINE Sports Car at half the MSRP. Pontiac in those days was anything but conservative, especaially compared to Chevrolet.

I Post in this section almost exclusively because the thought of owning a midengine Corvette has me that excited. So much so I chuckle at the arguments over minor exterior detail. IT WILL LOOK FANTASTIC! .

My very first factory ordered F Body was a 1995 Formula Firebird with 6 speed manual. Then did a bunch of mods to it later on. Nice cars. When I test drive the 96 SS Camaro, SLP Exhaust, Ram Air package, Hurst shifter, 310 HP. From the factory FAST car! I've never owned a Fero but I always thought they were cool looking cars. I just heard that earlier models wernt very great. But with no power steering it's kind of no wonder.
Been there. Bought a new ‘93 Camaro Z28 6spd when they first came out. So early in production they didn’t even offer a t-top yet. If I remember right it was under rated at 275hp to keep others happy. Some said it was really 300-325hp? I just knew it was fast. After that it was a new ‘93 Pontiac Firebird Auto. No where near the same power car but a great DD that looked way better than the Camaro which ruined the front ends looks by then IMO. I still owned my ‘88 Fiero GT during those days and other than looks becoming dated it was still my favorite driver car until my new ‘05 C6 Coupe. Now there is a Corvette, with its C5 heritage, that was not to be surpassed until my new ‘14 C7 Coupe.

There is clearly some fakeration going on here. That triangular bit aft of the side window looks like it was added for effect. It has a very tacked-on appearance. I think the actual car has a small window extension there much like the C7. I'm thinking the forward-angled rear scoop overhangs are also fake. It would make the door skins especially awkward to mold. That little wing is much too small to be effective. Maybe it's a base model "styling" piece. I'm not buying the Camaro *** end either. I think the C8 still has many surprises in store.

I would never buy a Corvette simply because I'm an American! No matter if it's made in the USA or not it still helps the USA economy. No matter how much I love my country, the world in its entirety is such an amazing place that I like to think of myself as a Global Citizen as well.

THe german brand posche asks that the buyer bend over when ordering the car, the ridiculously expensive options and during maintance and repairs.
even my buddies who own porsches laugh at how ridiculous porsche pricing has become.
great vehicle, iconic but the pricing as mentioned above is a little over the top.
doesnt matter how much money hou have..at a certain point getting robbed is an insult.
